Nothing says "THIS IS AN ACT" quite like announcing a match to show how progressive you are.

She could've mentioned:
"And to honor the women who have been in a Royal Rumble in the past, Chyna, Beth, Kharma...."
Because if you are going to salute a horrible person in Moolah right?
Chyna is a saint compared to her. This company and their double standards.

So it was a stupid segment. I don't care. Can't wait for the match.

So it was a stupid segment. I don't care. Can't wait for the match. I share this sentiment but I will say that it feels super hokey and if they want to bring new people in, like the old Stan Lee saying of every new issue is someone’s first, having a bunch of people United with one another seems a bit weird in a form of entertainment involving conflict. I’m not even saying it’s the worst thing ever and I hardly watch any parts of Raw anymore so I have no dog in this fight but it feels like sometimes WWE just simply isn’t bothered to link point a to b and build to it. Hell, nobody on social media was talking about a Women’s Rumble, which is something that could at least have been addressed on TV.

I'm excited about the match, but this segment was painful. And it's not so much Stephanie being involved (though that didn't help), it was more the Moolah butt kissing and the vicious Absolution suddenly being super chummy.
I'm gonna have to side with those who feel it took them out of the show. There's been controversial things in WWE this year (the Smackdown roster wanting to embarrass Raw, Miz noting Enzo was thrown off a bus) that I thought worked well enough in a kayfabe context. This wasn't one of them.

I’d also like to add to this point that I don’t want to hear anyone inside WWE do interviews saying it’s hard to get people invested anymore when they do segments that make those watching wonder if what they’re invested in matters, especially for the women where apparently they only get given stipulation matches instead of building to them. Like, the 6 man HIAC came about because 6 men were constantly fighting, interfering in matches and causing chaos. They didn’t get those six men out and say “The WWE title’ll be held in a 6 man HIAC for the first time ever because 2000 is the year of the new millennium and we need to finish off WCW!”

Nothing says "THIS IS AN ACT" quite like announcing a match to show how progressive you are. It also makes the signaling look more important ("Look, Look at us, Pay attention to us, see what we're doing, isn't it great? Say something good about us!") than the match itself.

So it was a stupid segment. I don't care. Can't wait for the match. Well I care, if you want to hype and sell your match, you should probably build the segment around the ferocity of the divisions and how you're trying to evolve as a brand and contain these new stables and insane feuds in one chaotic match instead of "Boy Girls are Cool just forget about the feuds you guys women are great and we're gonna give them this match cause they're so great, clap it up guys give them a hand!", because that doesn't get me excited for a match, it just makes it seem like gladhanding nepotism. And god help this forum if this is all built for Rousey to debut and win.

I'm not sure about the nepotism part, unless one of the women (not including Steph since she presumably won't be in the match) has a parent in management right now (and no, Ric isn't part of management, so Charlotte doesn't count either). Regardless, DON'T FORGET THOSE HASHTAGS!

It's pretty funny how much they brag about the fact that they've just realised that women are people.
Looking forward to next week's DID YOU KNOW? graphic that asks if we knew women had thoughts and feelings.

It'd be so much better / more progressive to NOT have the women break character at every single advancement. Yeah. I'm happy to see the WWE pushing the women's division consistently after years of it being a joke or an afterthought. However, the part where everyone was hugging seemed silly when they are supposed to be feuding. It's breaking character. Maybe they could have had a brawl with all of the women, and then Stephanie could have come out and said, "if you all want to fight at the same time, you get a Royal Rumble too". I'm looking forward to having two Royal Rumbles. I'm not going to knock having more of one of my favorite things until I see it.

I bet Steph wishes time machines existed so she could replace Susan B. Anthony. I'd rather have her replace Joan of Arc.

Jesus tapdancing Christ, what do you want? Steph puts everyone over like crazy, makes a major match and treats the women as equals but because of this strange hatred people have for Steph y'all shit all over it. Seriously, what could be done that would actually work to set this up? You don't just throw it out there like it is meaningless and you need the most eyes on it as possible so what else is there? Vince doesn't want to be on TV, Shane and Bryan are feuding and Angle doesn't matter. I get this place is complete over seeing the women do anything labled historic for reasons I will never understand but this really seems like bitching for the sake of it. And f*** Moolah and any attempt to glorify her, I agree with that. I'm not absolving her of some of the stuff she's done over the years to hurt the credibility of some of the talent, but the level of venom some people have for her is really troubling

Regardless, DON'T FORGET THOSE HASHTAGS! Maybe Neoptism is the wrong word, though Nia has apparently tried to pull her Rock card before. What I'm looking for is just doing something for the sake of making yourselves look good rather than the story you're telling or the characters you have and presumably want to build, its a stigma the Company has only gotten worse with over the years.
