"I remember one time I was talking to Vince – it wasn't the last WrestleMania, I think it was the one before – and I just asked him how things were," said Nash. "And he goes, 'The thing that's changed more than anything, is back when you broke in here in the fed, it was a shark tank. Like, everybody went after that top prize, and it was a battle. Now, wrestlers wait for me to come around with a sword and anoint them.' It's just not the same anymore." wrestlinginc.com/wi/news/2018/0101/635463/kevin-nash-on-what-vince-mcmahon-recently-told-him-regarding/

It’s like as though an environment is set up where ideas die quickly if an OAP doesn’t get or like them regardless of if the crowd is reacting to it and willing to pay for merchandise related to said thing.

I'm conflicted here. Like on one hand, I know Vince is out of touch, but I also see him not totally wrong here. It has to be a less toxic locker room these days. I can picture many people not wanting to step on toes and keep it pleasant and wait for a chance.

Vince used to reward people for being cuthroat, so people were cutthroat.
Now he doesn't, so people noticed and stopped bothering.
Think that sums it up.

I just want one of these guys to go up to Vince and say "Well, OK. How am I supposed to backstab anybody when nobody is putting themselves out in front to be stabbed from behind?"
His head might explode.

Yep, it was much better when the Kliq was killing people's pushes for looking at Shawn the wrong way or shitting in people's sandwiches.

When Nash broke into the business they didn't have a squad of writers putting out scripts to be recited word-for-word. Vince is a f***ing idiot.

Gee, I wonder why people don't bother trying to step up to you and take the reins? It's not like there haven't been several examples of people getting over only for them to get tired of your bullshit and leave or fade away because you spend months beating into the audience their opinion doesn't matter. Nope it's those f***ing Millennials not wanting to stab each other in the back. No ambition in these kids. What the f*** is Hunter teaching down in Florida?

I love Vince, and the business will be a much sadder day when he isn't around, but man, is he the biggest bullshitter who has ever bullshit. What he wants in a wrestler changes by the hour, let alone in 20 years.

To be fair he probably did walk in the locker room with a sword to anoint Roman.

Is it safe to say John Cena has been cut throat and ruthless?
I mean. He wasn't handed anything or anointed from the start like others. 2002 to early 2003 looked like a flop.
The politicians are in there Locker room, you just have to look harder.
Also. CM Punk buried Miz frequently. That would be considered ruthless. He hated him for no good reason.

Only wrestling would spin "our employees like each other and get along" as a goddamn problem.
(actually probably not only wresting but DEFINITELY WRESTLING)

Roman would totally no sell backstabbing. Even in a literal sense. Roman would’ve Superman Punched the ever loving shit out of Brutus.
And anyway, what’s the point of politicking, when like 95%of the roster are pretty much on the same level? You don’t do somebody dirty if it’s only a lateral move.

On one hand, I can see him seeing people "waiting for him to pick them instad of getting after it", but tahts' because the opposite is people who do just go out and get over, who the company hasn't already decided from jump are going to be "top guys" wind up either getting fed to the "right people", get no air time, or go unused for weeks at a time.
Thus, people don't want it bad enough to say "Well, if it works and I get over the company decides to run with it, I'm good, but if they dont' want to, then I'm out of a job"

He wants you to lay a swath of destruction across the locker room to do it. To him, you become the man by bending the rest of the locker room over, violating them, and making themselves shit with fear at the idea of looking at you wrong. You politic your way to the top, and you get the people who cross you fired. That's Vince's vision of "The Man".
