The best revenge is living well. Not even to get into personal lives, but Miz is a former WWE champion. Benoit is not. Back when Miz had the rooster haircut and the goofy pants. I never expected he was gonna become a huge star. I don't think anyone thought his WWE career would last more thank couple of years Max! Said it before and I'll say it again... I love Miz and he is a shining example fo everyone else to look up to. I thought he had potential, particularly after he got to ECW, but he's still surpassed any expectations I had.

When I read eddies autobiography, he had nothing but nice things to say about Chris talking about how he would always go out of his way for him and shit. I wonder if Eddies death f***ed him up this bad or if he was just a piece of shit to people he didn't like and was a good friend to those he was friends with

This was in 2007 as well lol. I wouldn't be surprised if Miz got a concussion from it. Was that a receipt or was Benoit just nasty? Kind of wondering this myself.

Don't get me wrong, by no means do I excuse any of his behavior, but I think there's something to that theory. Jericho talks in his first book about how all of the deaths around him kinda 'broke' Benoit. I think it was right after Bossman's death where a sobbing Benoit called him about all of his friends "leaving him"

Man in retrospect Benoit was a real piece of shit. When I was younger I'd think that kind of behaviour was funny but I guess it shows how much I've grown up when that school yard bully behaviour just disgusts me now.

Yeah, maybe it's the benefit of hindsight but some of the stories and things you read and see about Benoit even from really early in his career now just scream "this dude is a budding sociopath".

What's cool is that Miz hasn't carried over any of this behaviour himself like people can easily be prone to do. All you hear from wrestlers and fans alike is how nice he is.

I seem to remember a Rumble where Daniel Puder came out and was immediately followed by Benoit, Guerrero, and Holly I think and they all chopped the hell out of him and he got released soon after. Eddie was a much better guy than Benoit but he certainly wasn't above the culture at the time.

To my recollection, Puder had a reputation for being a colossal ass hat backstage, thought he was a huge star when he wasn't, and wasn't liked by pretty much anyone. The stunt he pulled with Angle on Tough Enough likely didn't do him any favors either. Probably not the best example of hazing culture, to be honest.

He admitted to ribbing Charlie haas I think but he felt bad about it, also when he was in Japan he would get ribbed pretty bad by the nasty boys, but he knew what his limits were I feel like

The only people who said he was an asshat were those who were already pissed about the Angle thing. Also, Angle was shooting on everyone, breaking one guy's ribs. They were literally told to go in there and 'hang' with Angle. What was he supposed to do? He was screwed either way. The shit with Benoit and Miz, that's unexcusable too. None of this stuff is needed.

It's stuff like this that makes me love Miz even more. The man had a dream. And god damn if he let anyone stand in the way of it...bullies, assholes; you name it. The man has DRIVE.
Wasn't there a thing about all the guys who were kicked out of the locker room and he was the only one who actually got back in or some such?

When people say that if you ignore the murders (and yes, that does automatically makes it an intellectually and morally bankrupt argument, but anyway) Chris Benoit should be celebrated for being a great wrestler, stuff like this is proof that he wasn't. You can do as many fancy technical holds as you want, if you're trying to do physical harm to your opponents because you don't like them, you've fundamentally failed at what your job description entails.
Props to Miz for creating a much more positive career path.

I remember HHH's story from the Benoit tribute show about him making a disrespectful rookie do squats until he pissed blood. The news about the murders was breaking literally while the show was airing, and it was fascinating hearing Hunter recall an anecdote that he probably intended as a compliment about how dedicated Benoit was to the business, only the context we were getting made it hard to think of it as anything but a precedent for Chris Benoit violently overreacting to perceived slights.

Whilst I still wouldn't call myself a Miz Fan, I do appreciate how far he has come from these days.
The guy is one of WWE's longest running employees to this date.
I don't miss that outfit though, though the funny thing was it was still been shown on the Raw Intro a good 2 years after he got rid of it.

That was about the 3rd most awkward tribute, behind Punk and Regal who both seemed like they figured it out before the police did.
