It's stuff like this that makes me love Miz even more. The mad had a dream. And god damn if he let anyone stand in the way of it...bullies, assholes; you name it. The man has DRIVE. Wasn't there a thing about all the guys who were kicked out of the locker room and he was the only one who actually got back in or some such? I forget where I saw the quote now, or who said it, but I distinctly remember hearing how Miz continued to dress in the hall or broom closets or wherever for ages after Benoit passed still honouring the request. Undertaker approached him one time and asked why he was still doing so, Miz says because Benoit threw him out; Taker just says “Benoit’s dead” and brings Miz back in.

The one thing about the Miz and why I respected him, the guy busted his ass and never quit at making it in the WWE. Being an reality TV star coming in the WWE he wasn't liked by most and took a lot of crap because most people wanted to try and break him and make him quit. There been a lot of stories about JBL and Benoit really bullied the guy because basically because he didn't spend years in the indies and train the old school way, which it's not the Miz fault he got the chance that they didn't have offered to them. The Miz wasn't good for a while but he always worked at getting better and better and that why I believe is the reason why he known to be such a nice guy because I'm sure he simply greatful that he got the chance he got and he made the most of it. He paid his dues in the spotlight and overcame a lot to now being one of the best personalities in the WWE and performers.

The Deadman saying someone is "dead". Love it.

I remember HHH's story from the Benoit tribute show about him making a disrespectful rookie do squats until he pissed blood. The news about the murders was breaking literally while the show was airing, and it was fascinating hearing Hunter recall an anecdote that he probably intended as a compliment about how dedicated Benoit was to the business, only the context we were getting made it hard to think of it as anything but a precedent for Chris Benoit violently overreacting to perceived slights. That was about the 3rd most awkward tribute, behind Punk and Regal who both seemed like they figured it out before the police did. Them and Chavo talking about how he'd trust Benoit with his life, which sounded half-memorial, half-testimony for the defense.

Miz and Kane are the examples that people should look at for locker room leaders. You haven't heard one single story of them being bullies backstage. That was about the 3rd most awkward tribute, behind Punk and Regal who both seemed like they figured it out before the police did. What did they do? I ain't looking up a tribute show for Benoit With Regal, all he did was talk about how Benoit was the most dedicated wrestler. He wasn't crying, he didn't say Benoit was a great guy, on a night where people were crying and giving emotional speeches, Regal was very serious with not much emotion. There's no doubt that Regal knew deep down before it became official.

I’d say he slapped the taste out of his mouth, but looking at Miz’s hair and attire, I don’t think he had any. I read that in Jerry Lawler's voice.

Miz could have kept the 'legacy' of backstage bullying and harassment alive and well by bullying the current crop of young guys when he became a veteran but he never did such a thing. I remember the story John Morrison once told about how he and Miz were ordered to haze Justin Roberts in exchange for never getting bullied again but they flat out refused to do so. This forever solidified my respect for these two. Miz has my utmost respect for taking that shit he did and pushing himself to succeed in spite of how f***ing garbage people were to him, putting out hard work for years until he attained not only success but respect from the locker room once all the bullies had cycled out and he had more veteran cred. He could have easily become a part of the system and used the same bullshit "It's how I was broken in so the rookies deserve to be miserable and hate being here as much as I do" shit that gets used not only by the bullies, but by some particularly miserable online posters looking to defend the bullying, but he was better than that. Now he's on top of the world, a featured star making a ton of money, in a happy marriage with a kid on the way, and he got it all in spite of the people who made him change in the hallway and stiffed him just to make him break. Miz is the real f***ing champ. I feel the same exact way, and it's why I think Miz would be an EASY face to book. Just have him cut the same scathing promos, but on heels. Play up the fact that no one thought he would succeed, but he did in spite of it all. Clearly the crowd is behind him when he talks about earning his spot, and I think if they went all in on it, he'd be an extremely viable babyface. He's one of the few veterans who actually feel like they've earned their spot, because he did. It wasn't handed to him like some others. Also, f*** Benoit. Seriously. I really wish someone had stood up to him, JBL, and Holly back in the day. Someone needed to.

There's no doubt that Regal knew deep down before it became official. Iirc, Edge's reaction also suggested that he knew something had happened. As for Miz, he gained all my respect after that footage emerged of him being confronted by that douchebag screaming "JIM CROCKETT PROMOTIONS" and "CHRIS BENOIT" at him.

The only thing worse than bullying is dressing it up as “hazing”, “tradition”, “induction” etc. If Benoit thinks it’s ok to treat somebody like that then he was a bully, end of story.

To my recollection, Puder had a reputation for being a colossal ass hat backstage, thought he was a huge star when he wasn't, and wasn't liked by pretty much anyone. The stunt he pulled with Angle on Tough Enough likely didn't do him any favors either. Probably not the best example of hazing culture, to be honest. The only people who said he was an asshat were those who were already pissed about the Angle thing. Also, Angle was shooting on everyone, breaking one guy's ribs. They were literally told to go in there and 'hang' with Angle. What was he supposed to do? He was screwed either way. The shit with Benoit and Miz, that's unexcusable too. None of this stuff is needed. yeah if ANYONE is to blame for the Puder incident its WWE for telling the guys to go have a shoot fight with Kurt Angle and then sending an actual shoot fighter out to fight him and then acting surprised when Kurt ended up publicly humiliated.

Yeah, maybe it's the benefit of hindsight but some of the stories and things you read and see about Benoit even from really early in his career now just scream "this dude is a budding sociopath". It was Daivari. I remember him telling the story about the Hindu squats. Dude was pissing blood because his leg muscles were so shredded by it.

I really wish someone had stood up to him, JBL, and Holly back in the day. Someone needed to. Cyrus/Jackyl stood up to JBL and it made things worse. Like most bullies, guy is selective about his targets, making sure to go after guys like him and Miz, who couldn't fight him and where no-one had their backs.
