Imagine the benoits and JBLS and Hardcore holly trying to do that today to someone like a Cesaro or Braun strowman Imagine the Benoits and JBLs and Hollys trying to do that back then to someone like a Blackman, Shamrock or even Kurrgan. There were legit guys back then too. Bullies know who to leave alone, no matter what era. We need Shamrock and Blackman as backstage security. Those are the heroes we don't deserve.

From what I've read, the reason is that Johnny was his neighbor and they bonded over their time in wrestling in the same promotions. He tried to help him in regards to Eddie's death and would walk in and stop arguments between him and Nancy.

Before Benoit died I don’t think I’ve heard these stories. The only things I heard about Benoit was how he was a class act The people being heard from were those on his good side or who'd come up with him. The friends who mostly saw the side of him they liked and probably excused the side they didn't as part of the business. Alternately, it's possible the Benoit was doing his worst when others weren't around, or when only specific people were around. If Benoit is torturing me, I'm probably not going to go up to his good buddies and talk to them about it, especially if I'm the guy in the locker room with no friends and no allies. The ones on the receiving end likely knew that if they spoke up about the harassment they'd be hounded out of the business even if people believed them. The thing about the toxic environment is that it was toxic all the way to the top. Management knew about the crap going on and did nothing to stop it. In some cases they encouraged or even rewarded it. So for those who might think of speaking out, they'd know it was signing the death warrant on their wrestling career/dream.

Bullies know who to leave alone, no matter what era. Didn't JBL try something shitty with Blackman at an airport and Blackman just knocked him out with one kick while getting his luggage? I swear I heard a story along those lines. Yeah, JBL started some shit with Blackman and was dropped like a bad habit with the minimum of effort. JBL's exact quote about it was "Blackman knocked me on my ass before I even knew I was in a fight!"

The only things I heard about Benoit was how he was a class act I know a lot of the bullying stories have come out after, but one common thing with Benoit seems to be that a)He was very paranoid (Nancy's sister even said he'd take a different route each day to the same place he was that worried about being followed) b)He went from emotionally stable to a wreck real quick (Hurricane told a story that while he was out with a neck injury, Benoit called him sobbing because Daniel had specifically asked God during his prayers to bless the Hurricane and make him healthy) c)He was terrified of a life after wrestling. The consensus seems to be despite WWE wanting him to be a VET to mold the ECW call ups and eventually to become a trainer/agent, actually terrified him and when he was told of the plans he had become more desperate to show he still had it.

As it turns out, messing with someone with a legit background in Shotokan Karate and Escrima is a bad idea. Whoda thunk it?

Setting aside the murders, Benoit sure was the poster boy for emulating your heroes.

That "heckler" is such a mark. Wasn't he the same guy who wrote THAT review of a Smackdown taping on 411mania years ago?

Wasn't he the same guy who wrote THAT review of a Smackdown taping on 411mania years ago? You mean Brooks? It was 'fan' submitted. He proudly proclaimed how he cheered the heels, booed the faces, how CM Punk acknowledged him and they were best friends and basically he was the best part of the show. Oh and he told sme children they were wrong to cheer Cena or something to that effect.

Oh and he told sme children they were wrong to cheer Cena or something to that effect. Pretty sure that was Brooks. Also proudly stated he gave the finger to Orton and it seemed to bother him, or something like that. Brooks was a running joke on the SD spoiler threads here for about a year.

That sounds familiar yeah. I was a member here at the time, I remember "did you boo the faces and cheer the heels?" Being a phrase

The crumbs story is actually even dumber, in that if I recall, he got crumbs on a referee's bag, not Benoit's. Not saying that refs don't deserve respect, they do, but the punishment wasn't even for a slight on him, but on someone else's behalf.

I feel like Miz even won JBL over at some point, because at first Miz was the only heel JBL didn't like, always talked shit about him on commentary, but more recently JBL was far more positive about him.

Not going to be an apologist or anything, just going to wonder out loud: if Benoit was still alive today, think he would have come around on The Miz like everyone else has? Benoit was a weird bully. Miz said that Benoit actually told him that kicking him out of the locker room wasn't personal and he also helped Miz out by giving him feedback after his matches. Another weird bullying story was Benoit and Justin Roberts, Benoit would haze Justin and stretch him but he was also legit concerned for Justin's father who had cancer at the time. Benoit even used to call Justin's dad and kept tabs on his treatment. Benoit started wrestling at 17, he had never known any other type of environment so his social skills were stunted, as far as I know he'd never worked in an office, a factory, been to college ect it was high school-pro wrestler, he knew no other life. These days I think the WWE likes its guys to have a bit of life experience before they sign. Benoit's reason for his crimes will never be known despite our educated guesses but the insular environment he had for all of his adult life may be why he was such a shit before. In contrast Miz's reality TV experience might be a factor in how he turned out to be a good egg. He'd have got savvy early doors to the 'be nice to people on the way up in case you come across them on the way down' attitude.
