Shortage or no, there's no way I'd ever work as a teacher. Bad kids and worse parents...more power to those that can. You're needed.

Yea the pay for teachers is so low compared to what they have to put up with. I remember the hell teachers caught 20+ years ago when I was finishing school. Can;t imagine what crap the kids put the teachers through now.

I have a friend that works at a call center and they are so desperate for people that they donāt even drug test anymore-I know thereās a big difference between call centers and teaching, but itās an issue of not paying employees much and being short staffed in both cases

My state is one o the worst in the nation in terms of education. They've been handing out emergency certifications to anyone with a bachelor's degree because the pay is so awful that a 30 year veteran is making less than a new grad one state over (pick a state, doesn't matter).
I'd point out the reason for a lot of this, but board rules are specific. I'll just say that when you don't pay people a living wage, you don't get the best to stay unless they just have a really vested interest in the location

Can;t imagine what crap the kids put the teachers through now. Ive heard that a lot and always assumed it was true, but reading stories about the WV teachers strike, it looks like they were making about 47-55 against a national average of 57-65. Those arenāt enormous numbers but theyāre hardly ādonating plasma to pay the billsā amounts. I think anyone willing to deal with kids AND their parents is underpaid, but iām also not sure why itās perceived as such a low paying job.

Like passing bills to ban Sharia law! (Sorry if that breaks any board rules).

The work is tedious, you're sitting all the time, and agents take a LOT of abuse - I'd actually say moreso than retail workers since people feel more comfortable acting that way when they aren't face to face. However, I've been paid fairly well at most of the centers I worked in. The best was at Citi, where they begin collections agents at about $12/hr(this was also 10ish years ago) with yearly raises and benefits from day one, including health, dental, vision, 40 hours of paid "planned" time off, and 24 hours of paid "unplanned" sick time.

Pretty sad if you ask me.
This will lead to people that are unfit to teach injecting schools with their conspiracy theories and such.
The rot is worse than thought.

Why is the American education system so bad?
Serious question.

I wonder now, with teachers striking because they're getting messed over financially, if the states will just bring in those that didn't pass the tests, to take their place. Most good teachers would freak out at this prospect.
I also wonder, if the ones that can't pass the tests are getting paid as much-they certainly don't deserve it

And doesn't this just dovetail beautifully/horrifyingly with the prospect of arming teachers in the classroom?

Why is the American education system so bad? Serious question. Simplest answer and least offensive (maybe?) is that Americans don't like paying taxes and always want a cut after an election cycle. Lower taxes leads to shittier social services which includes education. To the Mods, If this post skirts the politics rule then just delete it.

When they're taking the test, can't they just look over and copy the other students papers? Lol
