Over the past week, a lot of allegations have been levied on Doug Walker, Rob Walker and Mike Michaud from multiple former (and current) content creators such as Linkara, Foldable Human, Lindsay Ellis, Marzgurl, Phelous and Obscurus Lupa. Everything from the messes that were the big events like Suburban Knights and To Boldly flee, which included how terrible Doug was at directing, doing simple things as offering food and water during filming, and even a situation according to Ellis where a scene in the film originally wrote for her character to have been called 60 of 9 and for a scene involving her being sexually assaulted. Other stories include the staff of Blistered Thumbs not being made aware of the site's cancellation, pressuring people to sign waivers to avoid lawsuits from firings. And that's just some of it. Also apparently Channel Awesome hasn't been handling the backlash well and have been blocking people on twitter.

I've been keeping up with it by following Lupa and Marzgurl's twitter accounts. This is some crazy shit.
I've basically just given up on the channel and just watch the content on the Youtube pages of the creators.

So writing juvenile humor 7 years ago is an allegation now?

I haven't been to the main site in years, most of this stuff has been out there in some way or form in the past but never in such a massive collection. They in an essence exploited a bunch of content creators while benefiting and doing little to promote or help any of them outside of a small few. I can see exposure being a good incentive for being attached to the brand in the early days but with the death of Blip and Patreon being a thing there's almost no real reason to be attached with them anymore.
I just looked at the website for the first time and outside of one or two people I don't recognize any of them. One of the new ones I recognize I worked with when I was in film school prior to his YouTube channel and he kind of rubbed me the wrong way.

I'll be honest I haven't been to the website in years. Most of my favorite content creators are on YouTube so I watch them there. It seems to me the only thing the site seems to be good for is schoolyard drama and stories of the walker brothers being assholes.

Funny, I didn't hear any of these people complaining at the time they were being paid to do these movies... Just saying. Some of them have had known agendas for years. I would take these accusation with a huge grain of salt. I'm not saying Doug is necessarily a great guy or anything (and he seems like a pretty incompetent director) but you have to consider the sources and some of their past agendas.

Almost everyone at Channel Awesome have skeletons deep in the closets so this was going to happen sooner or later.

Uhhhhh they weren't being paid to do these movies. And a lot of those who've contributed to the latest thread have never been quiet about how shitty the Walkers and upper management treated the "lesser" producers on the site. And the accusers now number I the 2 dozen range at this point. Hell some of them, like Linkara, are current producers and are freely talking about the crappy working conditions they've had to endure for years now. Sometimes all it takes is a handful of people to be brave enough to voice what has happened to them for others to contribute their voice as well.

I seriously thought these guys (Channel Awesome, not the individual creators) were dead and done.

Glad that Tom White left them years ago.
Their "cut-away/guest gag" style didn't work for him, and he's been better off without them.
Also : The "Content Creator" bubble is starting to crash, no?

Honestly there's been rumors and words about this stuff coming out for years. Lupa's made detailed complaints about the management, Nostalgia Chick's gone on record about some of the issues she had with the writing of the anniversary specials, and countless people have brought up the numerous problems specifically with To Boldly Flee. Lordkat of Until We Win's been absolutely brutal towards basically everyone at Channel Awesome on his podcasts but given his own skeletons and bitterness towards them means you have to take it with a grain of salt. The most significant development now has been Marzgurl speaking up and Linkara being far more open in pointing out the flaws of the site/management. Glad that Tom White left them years ago. Their "cut-away/guest gag" style didn't work for him, and he's been better off without them. Also : The "Content Creator" bubble is starting to crash, no? I think simple content of "Show footage of show/movie/comic/game, cut back to creator whom makes jokes/snark about said media" is dying a slow death as a viable career path. People like Angry Joe, Linkara, AVGN, or Cinema Snob that have consistent uploads and/or dedicated fanbases can be sustained, but they're more exception than rule. That entire genre's moved towards video analysis and visual essays, and even those are still pretty much kept alive via stuff like Patreon; the days of guaranteed money via Blip oor fat contracts more easily acquired from YouTube are long over.

I still don't understand how "Channel Awesome" works. I know that it was (still is?) a web domain for people to upload content on where it's all grouped together, presumably with the idea that if someone will watch one Angry Nintendo Nerd knockoff they'll want to watch another, and I get that. What I don't get is how Doug Walker expected that to be an actual business. Like was he hoping to just rake in ad avenue and not paying the people making the videos for him because hey, he's the one getting them exposure?
