Roseanne’s comedy act was always about saying and doing outrageous and offensive things-the only thing that has changed was the sensibities of our society. For my own part I will point out that A. All the other comedians who are not being pointed at as a “Double standard” do indeed make equally tasteless and crass remarks-but they do it on stage or on the air as part of their act. Roseanne was tweeting this casually on her own time, leaving much more of a reflection fo herself than of her act. And B. Since all the cast members came out and said they were expecting it to happen I get the impression that she was unglued for a while and that her social media antics were either the last straw for the network-or just the excuse they had been looking for. Without getting political, I see no violations of free speech here at all, because free speech isn’t freedom from consequences for your speech. There is no inalienable right to be an asshole in the US constitution. And, indeed, it is worth noting that Roseanne herself initially urged people not to get political about it and admitted it was a dumb thing to do-and it was only after her cast mates came out against her that she suddenly jumped on board with the whole crowd crying foul over it. People have been calling for boycotts and getting upset over things that people have said for decades. Married with Children were boycotted. Elvis and The Beatles were boycotted. The 80s brought us the usage of the Parental Advisory sticker.

So we're going into the "performer vs. character" and which one do you like debate.

It's not gonna work without Roseanne. Guaranteed. Why not? It's a very talented and capable cast with some very good writers onboard.

Just feels like the crux of the show is Roseanne. Not to mention amidst the controversial exit, it's viewership will be divided. Cool for all em getting some more cash but it won't last.

You'd be surprised. I'm not saying that'd be a huge thing, but *some* folks would love seeing the show succeed without her

But that won't sustain it. Ah well. Should have fired her from the show before pulling the trigger and cancelling the whole thing. Maybe get a different actor to portray the Roseanne character every week

On a COMPLETELY unrelated note, did anyone ever notice how close Diesel's theme sounded to the Roseanne theme? All it needed was Nash laughing at the end.

Great now I'm picturing the Kliq goofing off at the dinner table as the camera does a 360 degree pan around it.
