So did anyone watch the revival of Roseanne last night? Without getting into the political aspect of the show, I thought it wasnt bad. It's going to take some time to get used to some of the newer characters, but so far they're likable enough.

How did they undo the finale of the original?

Here's the thing about the politics. This was Americas family. They were everybody's family to relate to. They 100 percent felt like my life on screen. And my family won't stfu about it. It makes sense. It's not even heavy handed like Last Man Standing was.
The chemistry is there. The writing was there, it doesn't feel like a revival i feels like season 10.
David needs to show up at some point. But it's good.

I've never watched the original show, and literally all I've heard about the new series is the political angle, so I can't say I have any interest.

The political humor was forced, and will be badly dated very quickly.

David needs to show up at some point. But it's good. I think I saw a picture of him at a table reading, so I think he'll at least pop up once. I've never watched the original show, and literally all I've heard about the new series is the political angle, so I can't say I have any interest. The second episode had none of that at all, if that helps any, and what they did have in the first episode was balanced so no one side is a particular target. And the ultimate message is really family. I really enjoyed it. I'm sick to death of all these reboots/remakes but I've always loved Roseanne, and it was the one reboot I wanted to check out - it didn't disappoint me at all.

People hate a lot about the Politics stuff but it's like nobody watched the originals to understand that the show was always about real life issues. I've seen people trash the Mark character but really they missed the point and why it was a thing because it was to address a real life issue in this world bullying and that was the message they where addressing. I thought the show was great and one of the best reboots. Sure there was some ruff corners but I think in time will get smoother. I always tell myself most of the actors haven't had a regular acting job in some time. The writing is there and they did seem to try and touch on a lot of real life issues that the average middle class family deals with and that why people related the show so much because of that.

I hated the show as a kid. For a little bit, my family really struggled, so my mother loved it due to relating to it, while I disliked it for the very same reason.
It's hard for me to get into sitcoms these days, so I gave it a watch and really enjoyed it. Really easy viewing, with some nice writing and everyone seems as comfortable as they used to be. I loved the political angle of it. And now as an old man, I liked all the aspects I could relate to. And I particularly loved Sara Gilberts role/character. I hope the show keeps going strong.

I remember enjoying it as a kid. I don't really have any interest in watching it now.

The ads leading up to it made me for sure believe it wasn’t gonna be good at all, but it was totally watchable to me.

I loved it-I watched the first four seasons of the original series and dropped out around the same time everyone else did, but I thought this was really well done and I’m looking forward to what’s coming next

The woman who played Mark's teacher in one of the two episode that aired last night also played Darlene's teacher in the first episode of the original series (the one who told Roseanne that Darlene was barking in class).

Didn't watch it, but without getting into Lock Territory (TM), Will and Grace's reboot did the same thing, only on the other side of course. Then there's variety shows like SNL of course which are different animals, and certain shows on cable all about burying one side or another. Point is, if you allow it for one side may as well allow it for all.
Not really a fan of the idea myself, I'd rather have original ideas. But...ABC is becoming the Reboot Channel, with this, Idol, and Greatest American Hero forthcoming. When we lose The Middle, then next season lose Modern Family...and I wouldn't be shocked if American Housewife only gets the 2 seasons anything that isn't the network's baby gets...I may just give up and go back to watching classic sitcoms on DVD.
But...you gotta tell me....how do they explain away Dan dying? Or do they just handwave that season away?
Either way it means Roseanne didn't really meet Patsy and Edina, which is a shame.

They just handwave the end away. In fact it starts off by joking about it and I think they referenced it once more as well.

I thought the show was very well done. It had the chemistry of the original show which is rarely seen when something is brought back after so long. The humor was still on the same level for the most part.

I have trepidation. I loved the show growing up, but I am curious how they, erm, reconcile this with Roseanne's character. Can't dance around it a lot more than that, but yeah.

Rosanne always felt like the one sitcom that I could relate to. It wasn't 20 something jerk-asses living in a $15000 a month apartment on coffee shop wages, it didn't have a mad scientist neighbor that would randomly open portals thru time, it didn't involve anything "rare" like hosting a TV tool show or being a successful stand-up comedian or living with wacky foreign people.
it was a bunch of poor to middle class (at best) normal people dealing with real life shit. A bunch of slobs, helpers, liars, jerks, saints, hard workers and beer drinkers. Rosanne and Married with Children were really two different takes on the same sitcom.
The episode when she talked about putting generic cereal into brand name boxes hit home with me because my mom did that.
That said, I liked the new episode. It felt like a real family. I know my own never shuts the hell up about politics when we get together.

I was nervous heading in, as Roseanne was a big favorite of mine growing up, but it was pretty solid I thought they did as good a job with the different....points of view...so to speak... as they could.
