Briscoes are the most overrated tag team I've ever witnessed. I still laugh at smarks who go on about lolcena wins while they cheered the Briscoes winning every match they had against Steenerico in their feud in 2007. (I'm still salty about that)

Flag desecration is nothing new, WWE have done it way too many times to get a pass and yet they still got a pass for some reason. I find it astounding that foreign stereotypes are implemented into heel characters and that people are actually booing them. Somehow that's ok for some reason, even though that's not any different than homosexual character being a heel and getting booed for being homosexual.

What gets me about the Briscoes is that ROH get a complete pass for keeping them on the payroll and pushing them, knowing full well what Jay is like, when any other promotion would be utterly lambasted on here for it.

Because people like the product ROH puts out, so their own biases give ROH a pass when they'd blast WWE or TNA for doing the same thing. I mean, look at all the people who made excuses for Hulk Hogan for being a garbage human being.

The Briscoes' seem like jerks, I've never watched any of their matches but you never hear anything good about them.

With that said, Shawn Michaels stuck the Canadian flag in his nose and then proceeded to hump it in the center of the ring. Both of those acts were deemed "good heeling" so it's not like this is some outlandish thing for a heel group to do. Even in 1991, Slaughter was threatening to burn the US flag. The Briscoes' are most likely terrible people but let's not pretend no one has ever done something to a flag in order to get heat before.

I think part of the difference is that both Cary Silkin and Joe Koff are openly gay, so many see it as the two people in charge fall under the umbrella of people directly affected by Jay's remarks and somehow they still feel it's right to book them.

Not saying I ascribe to it, but this in mind there is something of a different between ROH with the Briscoes and a white promoter booking a known racist or a male promoter booking a known rapist.

There's a big difference between crapping on a country's national flag in a preplanned heel stunt, and going into the crowd to take an oppressed people's flag for use in spontaneous crap. Especially when you've already displayed bigoted behavior towards said group in a manor that clearly wasn't a "work."

Long story short (and I know I'm getting some details wrong):

Had an affair with one of his trainees. Said trainee told him one of his other students had raped her. He told her to go screw, in so many words. He also said he planned on deliberately screwing his tag team partners future booking in Japan for uh... reasons?

There are probably some others who know the story better than I do and I'm definitely forgetting some details.

He may have but reading Bret's book it seemed that Bret wasn't a big fan of it. I would highly doubt Bret asked him to go into the ring and hump the Canadian flag. Especially because I'm pretty sure he did it in Montreal.

There's a world of difference between those things.

The "foreign heel character" is so hated NOT SOLELY because they're foreign, but because they're foreign, AND they hate your country and hate your people because they are from this country. And when a company just does it blatantly of "I'm not from here! I have different customs! Look at my craaaaazy passport!", they get lambasted just as much now.

Claiming it's the same as a homosexual character being a heel and being booed for being homosexual isn't exactly the same thing- though admittedly, it was for a very long period of time (and is only now starting to dissipate.

Because of that dissipation, for a homosexual character being the equivalent of an evil foreign heel, it would have to be be less someone who is "just" a homosexual and more someone who outright says every straight or bisexual person in the crowd is inherently evil for not being gay.

Between giving the belt back to Jay after that incident, and Sinclair Broadcasting being a shitshow company that forces its affiliates to air one of their staff's "editorials" with such friendly titles as "Suck it up, snowflakes", I have no interest in watching ROH or letting them have a penny of my money.
