I'd be under the impression, Vince was a close family friend to the Harts. However when you consider the fact that Montreal happened and Owen's death, how did they stay friends? Stu showed up at ringside in 2001, but its insane to imagine him staying close with Vince after all the shit that went down between 1997-1999. So how'd they make it work?

Bret Hart mentions in his book that Stu didn't have his faculties at 100% so wasn't sure what was going on in 2001 Bret had a bust up with his brothers and sisters for wheeling out Stu against Bret's wishes. Apparently they wanted to secure a McMahon payday somehow.

Stu had no problem with the WWF filming a match in the Hart dungeon in 1998. Granted, it involved Owen but still,,

Simple: Stu's kids (sans Bret) still wanted the WWF connection. Wheeling him out in 2001 was absolutely something they'd want to keep the relationship alive (it really pissed Bret off, mainly since - if you've seen it - Stu has completely no idea what's happening.....why subject your dad to that, unless it's just a ploy for attention?) Also I'm gonna assume (and HOPE) this appearance was from well before Helen died that year.

Whats this wheeling him out in 2001? Am I forgetting something? They were in Calgary for a Raw in 2001, and he, Diana, Bruce and other family were at ringside, and they just had him stand up (or rather, be picked up) for a standing ovation. That was the extent of it, but it is tough to see him like that, and I can get why Bret was livid it happened.

Well, from the various things I've heard, I'd gather family members (some more than others) just wanted to stay relevant in wrestling and feel the warmth of that spotlight again. Someone probably thought it might be a good idea to get on the show with the enticement of honoring Stu, someone who could make it happen agreed, and so this exists. And sure, the family can take blame for this, but this is an official WWE YouTube video, so.....that blame is certainly to be shared...

Now regarding why Stu kept an amicable relationship with Vince in the aftermath of Montreal? Self preservation, he still had Owen and his sons in law needing a job in the future, then his grandkids.

I think Bret wouldn't have a problem if Stu had decided to attend under his own power. It's the way he was manipulated. As for the working relationship with McMahon, I think Stu was more pragmatic than Bret. I maybe wrong, but I recall him telling Bret that "The Hitman" died in Montreal, Bret Hart just went home in Wrestling with Shadows documentary.

The way Stu was wheeled out was disgusting. For all the shit we give Bret, some warranted, some tongue in cheek, it's no wonder he was so angry. I'm with Bret on this one.

They also basically abducted Stu to get him there. Knowing his siblings were going to, Bret decided to get to the house early to prevent them taking Stu. He got there early, but Stu was long gone. After Raw, they also loaded Stu in the car and drove him to Smackdown in Edmonton.
Also, Martha’s lawsuit was still going on, and there sits Owens siblings and father front row, not good optics.

It even looked like at one point that Diana (I think it's her behind him) was lifting his arm to wave to the crowd before the camera cut away. What a low move by some of the Hart clan; no wonder Bret was disgusted with them.

The only children of Stu that you can count on not do some evil bullshit are Bret, Ross, and Allison Hart. The rest are assholes.
