I think Stu was at a Smackdown in Calgary the next year. Believe it was Smackdown. I’m not sure Smackdown has ever run Calgary. Even today when all they get is house shows, it’s the Raw crew.

f*** this I'm venting. How dare they? Stu's wack ass no talent no money drawing piece of shit sons prostituted him by parading him in front of the cameras. Bret's book for all the mocking we give elements of it is superb and his relationship with his family is utterly horrifying and compelling reading. The utterly selfishness and sociopathic nature of a good number of them is jaw dropping. The fact they did they to get their own payday, risking their father's health, jepoardising Martha's lawsuit AND taunting their Brother, who, let's face it was the only reason they all had any relevance at that stage was sickening. Bret gets stick sometimes, some justified, much of it not, but the fact he allowed them to get involved in the comeback feud with Vince is a mind blowing show of forgiveness. Final note is that one or more of them thought it was okay to write a message telling Martha to **** off on the whiteboard in Stu's room while he was on his deathbed. Martha who had an uneasy relationship with the family at best was still coming to visit Stu and show her respect and whatever remaining affection she had for them, and they felt that was an appropriate response. Hideous.

The pain in Stu's face as he's being pulled to his feet really upset me. They didn't even give him time to get up comfortably - or as comfortably as someone of his age could get up. Just pulled him up as quickly as they could for the camera. Poor guy. No wonder Bret was livid.

Hideous. According to Martha, only Stu and Helen, with Bret, Allison and Ross, supported her through Owen's death and the lawsuit, the rest of the Harts just wanted a hand me down from Vince. They're pathetic.

For the most part the Hart clan are assholes. The only children of Stu that you can count on not do some evil bullshit are Bret, Ross, and Allison Hart. The rest are assholes. I guess Owen as well. I don't get what the Harts were trying to get out of this. Bret and Owen are the only siblings that contributed to the WWE significantly, Anvil and Bulldog aside. Why would Vince McMahon want to keep a relationship with untalented, hanger-ons? I think the Hart women were trying to get Davey and Anvil back into the WWE. Bruce probably still thought he was a big deal who could have a run in the company, and the others likely had similar fantasies, or just thought they could make a few bucks out of the WWE. I think Bruce was trying to run his own Stampede promotion at the time, and would have been desperate for publicity, and perhaps some sort of talent exchange. Vince was just using them to spite Bret, and undermine Martha's lawsuit. It's actually not that hard to understand how the Hart kids could treat their father like this. None of them ever achieved a thing without him being responsible for it... except Bret and Owen, of course. So why stop using his connections and influence just because he's in such terrible health? Roll him out there, and try to get a rub. Cheap, carny bullshit.

Wasn't aware of that, so you were right in the first place. It's hard to call him one of the worst parents ever though. Considering he had 12 children that were raised in the wrestling business, it's always going to be an uphill battle. He's not Fritz Von Erich, but he's not Dory Funk Sr. either. I look at it like this. Iron Mike Dibiase and Roddy Piper are the best parents in wrestling's history. Stu is in the middle bottom tier. Now Fritz is at the absolute bottom. Grizzly Smith or Buck Zumhoffe or Benoit are the bottom.

As a PR exercise and ego-stroking a vindictive billionaire, it's scrapping the bottom of the barrel in terms of what's acceptable. The Harts? Yes, the women were trying to get their husbands jobs, but the rest of the siblings have done diddly squat for WWE. A quick cash grab while using the old man.

Smackdown was there in May of 2002, it was headlined by Edge and Kurt Angle in a steel cage (damn good match, btw).

What's wrong with these people, they got rocks in their heads? They're that wonderful combination of washed up child stars and entitled former athletes who can't get over the way a sibling or former teammate made it to the big leagues and desperately wants to be them, but since that can't happen, he'll settle for embarrassing them any way they can.

While Bret is not a perfect person himself, he still seems like one of the few decent people out of his siblings. I think the whole thing with Martha, was much like Bret's formally destroyed relationship with McMahon, they felt she was taking money out of their pockets. Teddy even says in an interview that Bret refusing to job to Shawn destroyed his and other Hart family members from having a chance in the WWE, despite Natalya and Harry both working for them after his departure. For whatever reason and of course part of it is jealousy, his family for a long time felt Bret tried to hold them all back and keep the spotlight for himself.

Part of the reason Bret Hart softened his stance with WWE was for the next generation of Harts. Partly because he saw himself as a custodian to the Hart dynasty wrestling legacy, and the premiere place to compete is WWE. But mainly because he's Uncle Bret and loves the kids and wants to see them do well. He thought that he was best placed to help their WWE careers develop so opened up for doing business with McMahon again.

That 2001 appearance, grim as it is, was sweetness and light next to Stu's appearance in 2002. I think at the Smackdown mentioned above. It was after Helen's death, and the poor man looked like a ghost. I had friends over, and family in the room, and when he appeared on screen, you could have heard a pin drop. Horrible.

As uncomfortable viewing as that is and as tragic as some of the situations are surrounding the Harts, you have to think their misfortune comes with a pretty heavy dose of karma. I mean, there's no discounting Stu Harts contributions to wrestling both directly and indirectly, but as a human-being he sounded absolutely horrific. At best he was a bit of a bully but at worst, an evil sadist, so for me, it's comes as no surprise that not one of his children came without their issues. I mean, I think it's pretty much universally agreed that both Bret and Owen were two of the most sound of mind when it came to the children (probably no coincidence that they went the furthest) but when those two are the sane ones (one being a complete narcissist and the other who's behaviour veered dangerously towards the sociopathic when it came to practical jokes) you have to admit that there's some deep rooted issues there. Even people who have gravitated towards them were either deeply damaged beforehand or have come out of the other side with the scars to show for it. In fact, I would go as far as saying wrestling families don't come more troubling than the Harts, to the point where I don't think we'll ever hear the full extent of it, which considering what we know, is a pretty horrific thought.

He thought that he was best placed to help their WWE careers develop so opened up for doing business with McMahon again. Bret did actually make amends with Vince before Natalya, Tyson Kid and Harry Smith signed with WWE. But I am sure it didn't hurt them and maybe they wouldn't have got there if Bret and Vince's relationship never improved. From Bret's book, it seemed like Vince was the one who made the first step. Calling him in the hospital after his stroke had an impact on Bret that made him willing to rebuild their relationship. But my point is if you know anything about Teddy, Bret most likely had nothing to do with Teddy losing his job in WWE.
