I'll apologise in advance, this isn't aimed at anyone in particular, I just find things like this really fascinating really. The guy who was widely accepted to be one of the best wrestlers in the World not too long ago is now not very good? Remember who was the Champ before him for a second.. And I like Jinder! And the best part is that one of the people who is being suggested as a better choice of champion is The Miz, who not too long ago was as liked here as Dolph Ziggler.

Once again people are confusing blaming booking, with blaming the wrestler. Had this match had a definitive ending it would have been pretty damn good as it as hitting its stride when the BS finish happened.

I still like AJ as champion, I'm just not feeling this whole feud to be honest with Nakamura. I'd rather see him tear it up with Joe again.

AJ Styles should be WWE Champion until at least Summerslam.

Miz has been putting on better matches and is a way better promo than AJ lately. That’s why someone would say that. It doesn’t matter how good AJ is. And he is. This title reign has been uninspired. His best matches as champion were against Brock and JINDER. I was f***ing excited for AJ/Nakamura. I’m not out to shit on them because they’re smark favorites. I bought the damn shirt for the Mania match that weekend. They sucked. Fans are so quick to blame bad or mediocre matches on the booking when its a wrestler they like but the minute someone like Reigns lays an egg it’s proof that he’s not good enough to be in the main event and shouldn’t be champion. Nakamura has been laying eggs for 2 years. We’re reaching Homer and the Pig levels of denial. “It’s just another mediocre match. He’s still good! He’s still good!”

People have been criticizing Nakamura for being lazy for a while though. Like, there's a large number of people who think the Zayn match is his height in WWE and he never matches it. The Roode matches were boring as hell.

Thing is, I don't see who is ready to be the champion.
AJ is the best option to be champion right now because as interesting as Shinsuke's new character is, he is a mid carder. Then there is the other option of Joe who stunk things up with Reigns yesterday.
I can't really see anyone else besides Daniel Bryan being a good enough successor right now and it's way too early to do that.
Have AJ continue to renew indy feuds that will never be as good as they were years ago until he gets the big match with Bryan at Summerslam. If anything, I feel bad for Styles having to push over the hill performers in order to satisfy certain segments of the audience that refuse to accept that their heroes lost a few steps.

And the best part is that one of the people who is being suggested as a better choice of champion is The Miz, who not too long ago was as liked here as Dolph Ziggler. The main point of my opening post was dedicated to other guys being better than Styles and better for the world title. Yeah, I said he's lost that fire and he's worse than he was as a heel but that wasn't my main point. If you take anything from that post take the fact that guys such as Nakamura, Bryan, Joe and probably Almas would be doing better justice than Styles and that's the pure point. When I see a face world champion I shouldn't be thinking that I'd want other guys to have the title more than him. Fact is people can blame booking all they want but what's hypocrisy is that when booking is great people say the superstar is great but when booking is bad in this case it's blamed on the booking. There's a time when people can also put blame on the superstar and that time is when you're not interested in said star's matches anymore. You can blame booking, you can blame Styles. At the end of the day I don't want him as champion anymore. That's that.

The only "mediocre" matches I've seen from Styles were the series against Owens and Owens looks like he doesn't care about life anymore so I'm not really inclined to pin that on AJ. I know people are disappointed but in my mind, these dudes have flown all over the world and back over the last month, they've got to be exhausted. I'm just not ready to write off one of the best wrestlers going today because he doesn't shit out 10 star matches every day.

Some of the answers in this thread prove why we don't deserve nice things. I'll let you all pine for the glory days of Jinder/Orton.
Styles is the one of the best performers in the world today, stupid booking decisions or matches with unmotivated opponents do not change that.
And LOL at the fact he has to lose the title to be interesting again. What kind of stupid shit is that?? Give me your fan club card bud you aint getting that back

I’d love to see Joe win the title. Unless it’s him I’m more than happy with AJ as Champ. He has been terribly booked lately and he’s still considered the best in the world by many.

AJ is decent at getting ok matches out of mediocre wrestlers, but I don't think he's the world beater people paint him as. He also got away with his homophobia for way, way too long.

Randy Savage and Rick Steamboat were yelled at backstage at Wrestlemania III because their match was too good and overshadowed Hogan/Andre. I may be getting into conspiracy theory territory here, but perhaps AJ and Nakamura were told to hold back out of fear of upstaging Roman.

Just to be clear: I fully acknowledge that sometimes the talent itself needs to shoulder blame for not performing up to snuff.
But when Bray Wyatt has a really bad run as WWE Champion...then Randy Orton has a really bad run as WWE Champion...then Shinsuke Nakamura has a really bland run on the main WWE roster...then Jinder Mahal has a really bad run as WWE Champion...then Bobby Roode has a really bland run on the main WWE roster...then AJ Styles has a really bad run as WWE Champion...
I dunno, at a certain point there's something much bigger at play than just one guy's title matches not living up to expectations.
