Because the dude just absolutely loves Japan. Along with being able to control what he does and the storylines he's involved in instead of waiting for a bunch of people to come up with ideas for him. I mean, if he goes, he goes but dude doesn't seem like the guy who NEEDS to go right now. I think the better New Japan's fortunes become, the less likely it is that he jumps. If Okada does lose, WWE's probably not getting him for a while. Given how cautious NJPW's been with the IWGP Heavyweight title, Omega seems the most likely next champion if it isn't Naito.

There's also this to consider. I think if Omega loses at Dominion then the Cow Palace show will utterly, and I mean totally die at the gate. It would have to be something like a rematch to draw anyone at that point, with the idea of Omega going over. But yeah, go ahead and book Cody to run in during the 3rd and deciding fall on June 9 and see who shows up at the Cow Palace a month later. The ideal thing here is the ending of WM 10. Omega wins in this epic match (which the main event of WM 10 wasn't) and the various BC guys come out to celebrate along with Ibushi, but the one guy who doesn't is Cody, who is standing there in the aisle looking on in disgust. One thing I will say is that Omega needs some other sort of finisher, a submission, whatever. Because watching the guy repeatedly go for One Winged Angel over the course of 3 falls could produce a really tiresome match. WK 10 ended with Okada finally beating Tanahashi. As for the OWA, it was an intense source of dramatic tension during the last year's main event at Dominion (Okada's foot just grazing the rope by accident to break the count was a wonderful moment) and Okada's neck pain at the end of G1 last year just made it a punctuation mark. That said, they'll likely take a different tact with this match, but OWA is still highly protected and will undoubtedly be a big part of the finish...which is what the crowd will likely react most loudly to.

Read my post again. I meant WM 10, with Bret beating Yokozuna while Owen stood there in the aisle bitter. Do something like that with Cody standing bitter as Omega and Co. celebrate. And yes, the One Winged Angel near fall at Dominion might be the best near fall in wrestling history. Even hearing about it before hand that one had me on the edge of my seat. But again, in the course of one match you can build to a OWA. I'm assuming Omega gets 1 fall in this with the move, but to get the 2nd what will he bust out? This would be the time for some epic new Van Terminator kind of thing he's kept under wraps. I'm just saying it will get tiresome if the story of all 3 falls is Omega going for One Winged Angel.

It's either Omega or Naito or a very distant 3rd place Jay White In regards to Omega leaving I just don't see it. Unlike a lot of guys Japan is home for him as he speaks the language and I believe lives out there. WWE would be an option somewhere down the line but NJPW has been good to Omega and I think he appreciates that because it allows him to be creative Now who's to say WWE doesn't make him some insane one year offer to test the waters. If it does happen it will be more towards the end of his career then now while he's in his prime

I'm just not getting why you're concerned about that, given that Omega basically prides himself on changing up the structure of his matches as often as he can (obviously hitting a lot of the same moves or whatever, but in terms of flow and pacing). If they're going two out of three, it virtually guarantees that they're planning on doing something with those falls, e.g. I could easily see one ending in a count out early on.

I really wish we were getting EVIL and SANADA against the Golden Lovers.

If one fall is a countout wouldn't that taint a potential title change or even negate the title change? I guess what I mean is that you can do a 45-60 minute 1 fall match and try to build to a particular finisher. But when it's 2/3 falls it's hard to keep going back to it fall after fall.
Omega has to win this for a variety of reasons. First, there's no real reason for Okada to retain here. As in where do you go? There's nowhere to go. Second, unless there's a rematch planned at the Cow Palace I can't see that show drawing a nickel if Omega loses that match. NJPW doesn't really do many rematches a month later anyway. Third, I think they'll want to do a Cody/Kenny match under the NJPW banner and making it a title match at the Cow Palace makes sense so that Omega can get the job back from the ROH PPV. Fourth, I think it is the best way to get to Omega/Ibushi at the Tokyo Dome for WK since that seems like an obvious direction. But how would you get there unless Omega is champion and Ibushi wins the G1? Why would these two guys arbitrarily start fighting otherwise? I guess Omega can simply rejoin the BC full time and turn heel, but that kind of kills the whole Golden Lovers thing.
That's a lot of potential stuff. If Okada retains....then what? The dude would beat his biggest current rival in the biggest match of his career. It's just piling on a record at that point and then what?

Omega has to win this for a variety of reasons. Gedo had a bigger, better, and story-wise sound reason for Okada losing and didn’t pull the trigger. Omega is very likely winning but Okada retaining is also very much in play.

As I said already I’m not betting against a Okada retention until someone actually has the IWGP Hw title around their waist instead of him Gedo is playing the long game and the obvious outs he had to get the title off Okada he hasn’t taken it.

I guess the main reason Naito didn't win was so Okada could break the consecutive defenses record. That's a lame reason but the end result hasn't been a poor one if you compare Okada's work this year vs. whatever Naito would have done against similar opponents. I figured Naito would be a transition champion to Omega, but he didn't even get that much.
No one has answered this but I'll reiterate: Who would possibly buy a Cow Palace ticket if Okada just retains clean and there's no rematch? Even if the idea is to do Okada/Naito at next year's WK there are ways to get to that point anyway (Naito could beat Omega later this year, it could be an IC title match, it could just be a high level singles match with no belt). Just doing Okada/Naito for the IWGP title at WK again is utterly predictable because everyone knows Naito HAS to win or else he's buried for eternity.
And yes, Cody is currently the most logical title contender for the SF G1. But at least a few people would want to see Omega get the win back from Cody, whereas Cody/Okada again has zero intrigue.

I have no interest in Okada/Cody. While they had a good match last year, it was still tied as Okadas worst match including the one with Suzuki but it ended up being one of Codys better matches for the year In regards to WK i'm hoping Gedo breaks the tradition and does Omega/Naito/Okada as the main event but Idk if he's willing to go that far yet. We thought Naito had to win this year and Gedo went the other way so we can say it's predictable but you never know In regards to cow palace, shit who knows.

I really wish we were getting EVIL and SANADA against the Golden Lovers. I think there is a strong possibility of that at the Cow Palace show. Granted if Omega wins the belt, I have a bad feeling it's Cody/Omega II, which I don't see drawing that well and I hope they have a strong card around that.

But, being as I'm going to the Cow Palace show, I'm f***inng stoked at the recent speculation that Kenny walks in as Champion.

The match stip is actually smart if you think about it--overall it feels like it's going to end and it is Omega's time to take the belt. On the other hand, you technically have to imagine Okada losing twice in one night lol

Lol ..it almost seems insulting for this to be how Okada drops considering he's walked into matches with Omega, Tanahashi, and particularly Naito with far better stories/build up.

As we build to Dominion, Hirooki Goto takes a moment to celebrate Goto Day (5/10, five = go, ten = to) on Twitter, only to have HOLY LORD TAICHI call him out for his name having to be the reason it's rainy and miserable outside.
Goto responds "the heavens are just excited."

I actually figured the plan would be for Okada to lose to Naito at WK13 but now maybe they go Naito vs Omega at WK13 for the belt? Though for better or for worse (and if you look at the attendence numbers it does seem for better), Okada is really "The Ace" and having him completely out of the main event picture doesn't look like it would be something in Gedo's plans. Although you could do something like
WK13 Omega vs Naito for the IWGP heavyweight belt Okada vs Jericho for the Intercontinental belt
Though that card means working around Jericho's schedule, which would be really difficult

Taichi is still awful, but him calling Elgin a Firepro create-a-wrestler on Twitter is great.
