I want this movie to be inexplicably massively successful and lead into a bunch of other bizarre Sega adaptations with f***-all to do with the original. Give me Ecco as a lizard (still called Ecco the Dolphin), Bayonetta as a struggling lawyer, and whatever the hell a two hour American Persona would look like. You jest but wouldn't you want Climax Lawyer Action? I mean you want that prosecutor dodging don't you?

Something that's being lost in all this is the fact that there's one part of the trailer that just looks awful, and it doesn't involve Sonic. You know how the documentations revealed that the rings he use can transport people and things across space, and he uses one of those to save the two human protagonists from falling to certain doom by transporting them to a farm, right? The problem I have with this is that the angling of this makes it look like something you'd see from the folks at On Cinema (who went on to create the Decker series of shows on Adult Swim), who take advantage of green screen technology to squash and stretch actors to create the illusion of depth (i.e. a person is running a great distance or entering a CGI building). It'll probably look a little better in the final product, but I can't help but to imagine they'll just smash into the side of the barn thanks to forward momentum or whatever nonsense laws of physics that this movie will operate under.
TL;DR, it just looks dumb.

Still... such a simple change, and it it's freaking adorable. NO CRAZY TEETH EITHER! And the weird chunky legs gets fixed... man. Simple I think a majority of us wanted a Sonic movie as a kid, and now that we're getting it... it's, disappointing. Carrey is chewing up the film though, that'll be fun.

It’s a kids movie... it’s the same Rocky and Bullwinkle crap, Alvin and the Chimpmonks, Smurfs, Yogi Bear, Woody Woodpecker, Hop (James Marsden makes some terrible career choices) But seriously what were you guys expecting a live action adaptation of Sonic Saturday morning? That’s awful is the next video that played had Rocket Raccon in the thumbnail. The difference in quality is jarring. Eh, if Sega had any interest in protecting their IP, it’d have been a bit loyal to the source material but by all accounts, Sega was cashing in and just had to accept what happened from that. It’s why we got Detective Pikachu and not “The first adventure of Ash and Pikachu” that Warner Bros wanted because The Pokémon Company were like “Well, this would make MUCH more sense as a movie”. It’s also why Shigeru Miyamoto is probably slapping every person at Illumination that suggest Mario farts. Sega has never had any interest in projecting their IP. We’ve known this for the past twenty years.

We’ve known this for the past twenty years. Sega’s biggest problem was that all their ideas were coming internally and changed so rapidly per game that they weren’t ever consistent. Keeping good aspects and improving them didn’t seem to be a strong point they wanted. You notice the moment new voices were given Sonic with Sonic Mania that the quality improved and all they did was improve what came before.

So this popped up on my YouTube home screen today from 12 years ago.

At least he wont have a human love interest this time... right? Given Mardsen's played the false romantic lead half a dozen times, its probably a coin toss on whether his character's wife leaves him for Sonic in this movie.

To fair, Sonic Mania wasnt made by SEGA themselves hence the quality. That why there was a huge difference of quality between mania and forces.

Sonic Team just kept throwing everything at the wall and saw what stuck... and then intead of seeing this worked but this didn't... they threw everything out and started over... again and again and again.

And it’s what I mean by them just willing to cash in what is a passionate fan base rather than take more care of it. Like, I’m not even saying there can’t be a good outcome to that stuff but, again, Tim Miller said in an interview that Sega wasn’t a fan of their designs but had to go with it (he didn’t say because they didn’t have creative license but you can read between the lines there) which just shows all the intentions Sega had with this.

The design needed to be stylized so badly. He's an alien, he doesn't need to look more realistic
