I'm cautiously optimistic about this movie - Sonic has a pretty solid track record in media outside of the games, so I'm curious to see how this looks. Will be seeing it regardless.

If I wanted to watch a cringy piece of Sonic media where the story has an unnecessary focus on a human and his friendship with Sonic to the point of downplaying the canon game characters, I'd just watch Sonic X again.

I recall enjoying a fair amount of Sonic X episodes. I didn't hate Chris Thorndyke to the extent other fans did, but he was usually the least interesting character.

I’m really not looking forward to reviews of this film going on about how alleged awful all Sonic fans are. Maybe it’ll be fun, maybe it won’t, I’m just not looking forward to having to defend myself for enjoying a game series. Why we can’t just have a SatAM feature film, I have no clue. Why would anyone give you grief for enjoying the Sonic game series? They're fun.

Though I think Sonic's occasional 3D hiccups, like the buggy 2006 game, Rise of Lyric, Forces not being as great as Generations, and Shadow's solo game have unfairly hurt Sonic's rep some in the gaming scene.

As been said, if I wanted to watch Sonic be made a Secondary character in his own show, I'd watch Sonic X

Welp, chances of this being good go immediately down the drain. At least we've got Sonic Mania Adventures.

I’ll just say this: if I was in charge of producing a Sonic film, I wouldn’t shoot for a campy life action film. There’s too much interesting Sonic mythos already established with his comics and TV shows.
I’d aim for a fully animated Sonic film that was in the mold of How To Train Your Dragon. Or Big Hero 6, Kung Fu Panda, those sort of franchises that appeal to kids and adults. Something that was colorful and fun, but had harsher, dark moments, and was also smart.
I love the Street Fighter Movie, but my goal wouldn’t be to compete with the live action Street Fighter. I’d aim for a Sonic film that could get serious consideration for a Best Animated Feature Oscar, or a Golden Globe. The Razzies wouldn’t pay the movie any mind. I’d like a Sonic film that IndieWire and the Chicago Sun Times would praise, something really ambitious.

What I just don't get is why there is this ingrained notion that non-human characters in a non-human franchise absolutely positively need humans or the general public won't be able to relate. We saw the exact same thing with the live-action Transformers, particularly at the beginning, where it's like "Oh wait, there's robots in this movie?" and human squabbles or focus group comedy completely crowds out any established lore to be had.
It's honestly an utterly antiquated way of approaching fantastical or sci-fi or even just plain xenofiction settings that just won't go away. Hell, imagine Finding Nemo except there's like a family of deep sea divers completely stealing the attention.

Oh, just make a full length Sonic Boom movie. That show's the best thing to come out of the franchise since the Mega Drive and the best actual animated show from it all.

Maybe it’s because I haven’t played the games in years and am completely unfamiliar with related products, but the whole idea of a live action STH movie sounds unbelievably stupid to me.

Notice the cop car says "Green Hills", not Green Hill.
They're referencing the Game Gear Sonic 2!
