Yeah, I’m sorry, but I don’t find any of these over the top reaction videos or memes to be funny at all. Sonic’s a character I grew up with since childhood, and I find it incredibly annoying and disheartening that people can’t look past the less-acclaimed games and mocking of the fanbase to actually see the things that make the property appealing. It’s doubly upsetting because of the fact I thought the trailer looked so fun.
If they want to redesign the model, sure, fine. All I cared about frankly was an interesting action storyline revolving around Sonic. The references to the games and Sonic looking exactly like he does in-game are secondary to me. The only thing I’d change would be making the model’s eyes a little bigger, but that’s it. I’d still keep them separate as the classic one-eye would not look right in this setting (which I’m still willing to give a chance, I’m over the whole “it should always be all animation” thing).
I guess I’m an idiot for looking forward to something, I suppose.

Sonic's wheels keep on spinning regardless, so you aren't alone. If you watched that trailer and thought "Hot damn, this looks like a great time!" then I cannot see why what anyone else says on the Internet matters, especially since there is so much white noise clogging everyone's receptors in this godawful social media age. I support you brother, rock on.

Also this. Since even Sega was said to be unhappy with the design months ago... I'm sure this was a marketing ploy to get some sorta meme Though Jim Sterling had a good point... they sent standees to the theaters already with the old design so either they wasted a ton of money on this for a cheap stunt or they are quickly trying to fix it. Another thing is that there supposed to be merchandise for this movie. That how the design got leak a couple months ago. I cant see them creating a brand new design if they already have merchandise in work for it. It probably be a simple fix that end up looking like "no mustache" Superman.

Honestly, the design of the character isn't going to turn an awful movie into a good one so I have a feeling this is just a bunch of lip-service and nothing will actually change beyond maybe a minor tweak. The merchandise has to be all ready to go by now.

I guess I’m an idiot for looking forward to something, I suppose. I don’t see fan base mocking here. Actually never see it on our board until you bring it up. I didn’t see anyone call you an idiot for liking the trailer either. There have been positives in the thread about the trailer; the negatives are mostly wrapped around the character design. And that’s being changed out now. Pretty sure a lot of us grew up with Sonic, and wish he had better outings. That’s where the disappointment comes in.

Be honest, I like Jim Carrey as Robotnlk and whoever doing the voice of Sonic is doing a good job at it but Sonic being alien and the us military going after him sound like a unused Michael Bay Script turn into a Sonic movie.

You all know the Sonic Cycle right? Well we're in the third of four stages of it.

Its interesting to me that online wise many casual and/or lapsed fans of Sonic seem more upset about the design while I've seen a lot of the hardcore crowd respond with resigned disappointment or indifference.
I don't know if its a case that for the former crowd Sonic is frozen in time as a classic platforming mascot and thus the offending depiction stands out more or that the latter is just used to less than ideal media of the character and so isn't as bothered. Speaking for myself, after the tedium of Sonic Underground, the nonsense by Ken Penders, and the disaster of 06; a mediocre looking movie adaptation with a lousy design just doesn't bother me that much.

Honestly, that’s where I stand with it. Compared to some of the stuff Sonic Team alone has put Sonic through and the rush time they had on 06 and Boom along with the stuff you mentioned, having at worst a bad movie with a bad design is...not the worst thing to have. And it’s not like a franchise can’t recover from it. Mario sure as hell did.

You just know the insane Star Wars fans are licking their chops for the next trailer to drop so they can "pull a Sonic"

For me personally, I know a couple people who want to see this movie but their experience from playing sonic game are either on the genesis or the Dreamcast era so they havent experience the dark ages of Sonic. On the other hand, I seen people online criticized Paramount for making their CGI department work overtime to fix a CGI blue hedgehog for a fandom that mostly view as being a bunch of manchild complaining.

Another perspective from a former freelance animator about the whole thing.

Making an updated prediction, it gets pushed back to either the date currently held by a Gi Joe movie or April 6 which is two days before Bond 25 setting up an battle of heroes in Sonic taking on Daniel Craig's very likely swan song as James Bond 007 at the box office

F***ing good.
Not worth overworking a bunch of VFX staff for the sake of management’s blunders.

Yeah, better to delay.
Still, if they had just taken the video game character out of the game and put in on the screen, this wouldn't have happened in the first place.
Any time a Hollywood Executive says they know better, they should be shamed into hiding.
