I saw this was the concept for a podcast, but wanted to explore this question elsewhere too. The podcast is called Averagefest and though I haven’t heard it yet apparently the first movie they covered was Mickey Blue Eyes.
So what movie would you make the argument for?

It might be most notable for the PlayStation Network accidentally making it available for free for a few hours.
Edit: I remembered I am Number Four after it was showing on TV today. It perfectly embodies the era of cashing in on young-adult literature adaptations with forgettable films.

Jack Reacher. Along Came Polly. The Vow.
None of them horribly bad, or good. But not really memorable or noteworthy one way or another.

Meet the Fockers. Not a terrible or great movie nor did it really expand on what was done prior except "lets do it the opposite way this time". Feels more paint by numbers than anything I can think of

The entire genre of romantic comedies.
That entire genre is the definition of "average", to the point that if a romantic comedy is even an above average movie- let alone tries to be good- then it's a notably great movie by comparison.

All Tom Cruise movie of about the last decade. None are outright terrible but none have been really groundbreaking, or inspirational or worth talking about the day after you've seen them.

Waterworld?
That's not good, it's not bad, it's there, it's an average movie.

The Matrix Reloaded.
The first film was interesting but flawed. The second film has some fun ideas and great, innovative action scenes, but neither it not Revolutions had that extra "spark". The third film just felt flat, and up its own rear end (more so than usual).

The third film just felt flat, and up its own rear end (more so than usual). The freeway fight was still pretty spectacular. I’m one of the few who thought the scene with The Architect was kind of brilliant as well. Movie is a lot of things, but I don’t think average is one of them.

I've always felt this way about the Bourne movies. I'm sure there are some that are better than others, but the core concept of the first one just feels "Meh".

Oh, Atomic Blonde. I enjoyed it and I'm glad I saw it, but the fact that Theron's character is going through a flashback for most of the movie detracts from the dramatic tension.

I'd say Oblivion (Tom Cruise) was pretty damn average.
Nothing about it stands out but it's not a bad movie

I loved that scene as well, and honestly don't get the hate that Reloaded and Revolutions gets. For me, the series didn't get interesting until the second movie. The whole we live in a simulation/question your reality trope had been done hundreds of times in scifi up to that point. But then the Wachowskis took that idea and expanded upon it and developed it in utterly fascinating ways. Although clasher speaking of a spark that was gone from the first movie to the second, I never thought about before, and can actually see what he's referring to. The first movie had a daily 9 to 5er escaping and breaking free of the daily slog of life. It was exciting as we went along with his discovery of a whole new world. Then we come into the second one, and we meet him in the daily slog of his new life, the excitement and spark worn down by the reality of the struggle, and he's no longer excited and amazed.

Rampage. Not the recent movie but the 2009 Uwe Boll flick about a guy going on a killing spree because society man lol.
Bare in mind the director. Average is the best possible outcome.
