Yeah this has been all over the local news, with his various U of L ties. He was also forced out of the U of L Foundation, and given his nebulous role in the whole board of trustees insanity where Matt Bevin replaced the entire university board with his cronies. So now Schnatter is out, and he can follow Ramsey (who was out as president a while ago) along with Jurich, Pitino, etc. I think Schnatter wanted Pitino and Jurich out, then he himself was shown the door as well.
But yeah, by all means get rid of the Papa John's name for Cardinal Stadium. And take the KFC Yum Center name as well.

Going from Joe Louis Arena to Detroit Events Center (LCA's working title) to that is just... ugh.

Wow, I've read so many different articles and I don't understand the outrage if you consider the context of the statement. This reminds me of Netflix executive fired for mention it as one of the inappropriate words.
As someone who has worked with a white supremacist for half a year before that idiots stupidity got him fired, this isn't even close to racism..
Maybe more will come out, but even a fine or suspension would be a stretch to me.

The context is "Why am I getting heat when a guy who's been dead for four decades didn't get heat for saying racist stuff?" Dude tried to whatabout his way out of blaming black players being allowed to protest in the NFL for hurting his company's sales. It's terrible PR and being forced to step down was pretty much inevitable.

Dude would have been way better served to just have 'Papa John' be a fictional character and him just be a CEO you don't hear of. It's a lot easier to b a jackass when you haven't made yourself a "name".

For sure, but if you're gonna be a racist pile of crap, it's probably better for your bottom line to keep that shit on the DL.

Dude tried to whatabout his way out of blaming black players being allowed to protest in the NFL for hurting his company's sales. It's terrible PR and being forced to step down was pretty much inevitable. Pretty much. You also don't have to be a card-carrying white supremacist to be a racist. He blamed NFL anthem protests (which are overwhelmingly done by black players to protest against police brutality and a lack of racial justice) for his lagging pizza sales, which is ridiculous and it displays a certain level of racist thought to even think that's a reasonable conclusion. He complained about Colonel Sanders being able to say the N-word without backlash (which again, he never did, at least not as far as we know) as opposed to going "Hey, let's make it known we don't endorse white nationalism," then reminisced about growing up in southern Indiana at a time when black people would literally be dragged to death by pickup trucks. What I'm getting at is him saying the actual n-word is more the racist cherry on top of an already racist sundae. He could've never said that specific word and it still would've been pretty damn racist.

I was just on the company's website, and they still have his smug mug adorning the company logo....one would think they'd get an IT guy to quickly modify it and remove any connection to him, but nope. This is better

Someone may have already brought this up, but are they changing the name? It almost seems like they have to due to it being tied to a racist prick. It would be like if Subway was called Jared's Subway or something similar.

The problem with changing the name of the place is that they have all the time and money invested in the existing name... and they'd have to run ads saying that "Papa John's is now SuperGreatPizzaCo!" or whatever, so people would know they're the same company anyway...
