Fifth episode was a delight. Felt almost like classic TNG. Can we just have Frakes direct the whole series? {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}And best of all, no scenes on the Borg cube. Well, that thing in your spoiler is going to be made up for next time. {Spoiler}While it fit with the story, I wonder if Icheb's death was a subtle F.U. to some of Voyager. Also, wonder why they couldn't get either his (well one of his) or Maddox's actor back for this.

If they really wanted to give an F.U. to Voyager they'd have offed her.
Brian Brophy, who played Maddox in TNG, is retired from acting and is currently director of Theater Arts at CalTech. Beats me why neither of Icheb's actors returned, particularly Manu Intiraymi, who reprised the role in a fan-film only a few years ago.

Well, that was intense.
The Icheb scene, probably the goriest bit of Star Trek ever, the ending didn't look particularly present either, even the woman Seven kille, looked slower and more painful than the usual phaser desth.

Thought the episode was particularly wretched. Just isn't Star Trek

It was terrible. I was ashamed of the level of violence and took blowback from my spouse's sister because I let her kids watch THAT opening scene (they saw some of it before I told them to leave the room). *yikes* I never expected such gore and senseless violence from Trek nor such a bleak amoral message.

Oh good, a stock fantasy elf character I’m leaning towards Rios also being a hologram. Looks like he finally leaves the ship in the next episode, but if Freecloud is a big holodeck... So unless he’s a hologram that reacts to drugs, this theory is out.

I can’t wait to share some of the shows with my son. This one will have to wait much longer.

Also, I’d be more on board with dropping F bombs in Star Trek if they ever meant anything. But everyone they’ve used so far has been completely superfluous and unnecessary. They don’t add to the scene, they’re just there for the sake of being there

Well, shit... {Spoiler}Add Hugh to the list of returning secondary characters to die. Loved the scenes with Picard, Riker, and Troi. Nostalgia hit me right in the feels, and actually got me caring about Soji for the first time.

Nostalgia hit me right in the feels, and actually got me caring about Soji for the first time. Regarding the the spoiler: {Spoiler}{Spoiler}There's a VERY slight benefit of doubt that Hugh is actually dead I have. He probably is, but the fact that 1)he's a former Borg, and probably has the same nanos that Seven had that did so much on Voyager that could bring him back and 2)the fact that they're doing an interview with his actor next week on The Ready Room (little post-show thing that's hosted by Wil Wheaton that has interviews with cast members and behind the scenes stuff) gives a VERY small chance that Hugh may be alive.
If nothing else though, he got more to do on the show than Maddox and Icheb did. On another note...a sign that the animated series is now canon: the Kzinti from the animated series episode "The Slaver Weapon" were mentioned.

Icheb was really the only tolerable one of the group IMO. Rest were obnoxious. Though Trek and kid characters don't tend to mix well. It was something of a minor miracle that Naomi Wildman was likeable.
