Satisfying, but imbalanced, finale to a satisfying but imbalanced season. Overall I’d probably give the season a 7, hit the nice nostalgia spots without over doing it, told a decent story, every character had an arc and purpose for being there. Not a lot of complaints, just very up and down. Also, is it just me or did half of Picard’s crew get away with blatant murder this season? Well, Elnor that was what he was there for (and he did give the option), Agnes' mind was messed up for hers, and Seven was her own thing for most of the season.

Kinda obvious, given the finale.

Plus the fact that, while I can suspend disbelief...he was starting to look too old for the part as it was. At least with the Soong that's on the Synth planet we have a way for Brent to appear without being Data.

I'd be fine if he stuck around as Soong, though.

I love how Brent Spiner has played every single Soong male ever, from the one in Enterprise, to Noonian, to his son, to the three android "brothers" in Data, Lore, and B-4.

Kinda obvious, given the finale. Well his biggest concern (as well as of a bunch of fans, it seems) was that he'd really aged out of the role over the years since Nemesis. Even back in the early 2000's I think he was aware the makeup as he was getting older was looking off. He says he's still up for playing Altan Soong, though, if the need exists in the future...

Even back in the early 2000's I think he was aware the makeup as he was getting older was looking off. The entire reason for Data being killed off in Nemesis was due to Spiner feeling he'd aged out of the role; the entire Data subplot was his idea, for which he received partial story credit, with the intention of bringing him back at the end of the next movie in a small role. Nemesis originally wasn't intended to be the final TNG movie, with one more planned afterwards (a heavily-rumoured 'event' picture that would also feature DS9, Voyager, and Titan), but at some point between the end of filming and the start of the promotional campaign the decision was made to cut their losses. Enterprise was already struggling badly, Insurrection had bombed, and presumably once the early cuts of the movie were put together the executives realised Nemesis wouldn't turn the slump around.

How the f*** is the Starfleet reaction to attempted OMNICIDE by a synth to repeal the synth ban?

Didn't Nemesis bomb, too? Horribly. It's the lowest-grossing Star Trek film in the franchise, taking just $67 million worldwide on a $60 million budget, and was the final nail in the coffin for Star Trek as a whole - Paramount lost faith in the franchise as it was and only a fan campaign saved Enterprise from being cancelled after the third season, though the fact that the fourth aired in the Friday night death slot showed just how little Paramount cared. Within two years of Nemesis the decision had been made that drastic action was to be taken to make Star Trek worth the cost of keeping around, and led to the replacement of Rick Berman as the creative head with Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, and J.J. Abrams.

Berman and Braga only came back for the hilariously bad series finale.
