I'll say that outside of his initial late '97-fall '98 heel run and his later "Hollywood" run, I've never really liked the Rock. Him being on top when I was around 14-15 years old drove me away from watching WWF. I got sick of the singalong promos and how it felt there was a new catchphrase every week and, yeah, I was one of those who never bought the People's Elbow as a finisher (I know, I know, wrestling logic). So...maybe it was just his babyface stuff that turned me off? That might've been it.

I still love Hulk Hogan. I love his promos. I love most of his matches. When I watch Hogan from 1984-1991, I feel like a kid again. I even love Hollywood Hogan because his promos were often hilarious. The fact that Terry Bollea is a man of questionable character doesn’t hurt my enjoyment of Hulk Hogan in the least.

The only hall of fame Tammy Sytch belongs to is the alcohol of fame.
She was an awful valet and manager.

Bruno was an awful wrestler and champion.
If you disagree I’ll fight ya...on Smackdown Here Comes The Pain, nobody can beat me when I’m Scott Steiner.
Oh by the way, Here Comes The Pain is the best wrestling video game of all time, better than No Mercy, No Mercy is overrated.

Marty Janetty is NOT a coward and did not throw himself through the barbershop window to escape.

"He carried himself like a champ" is one of the most meaningless and empty platitudes you can say about someone. Quintessential damnation via faint praise.

Flair leaving WCW was a blessing in disguise for WCW. Yeah, business wasn’t great but we got Rude coming in which led to The Dangerous Alliance vs everybody feud. Vader ascended to being a top star in the company. Foley returns and gets a solid push right off the bat. I don’t think any of this happens if Flair is still around.
Nasty Boys vs Cactus and Payne at Stampede 1994 is far more brutal and violent than anything ECW put on. The fact that Styles wrote a retort to the observer shows how petty he (and Heyman) are.

I'm with Cornette on guys like Kenny Omega and Joey Ryan. We all know wrestling is fake, we don't need to be beaten around the head by that fact then suplexed by it's dick. Pro wrestling requires suspension of disbelief to work as a spectacle and it's really hard to feel that when you have spots like that.
I'm not with Cornette when he says funny doesn't equal money. Disco Inferno was a comedy wrestler, but he could get serious when needed and he added colour to the WCW undercard, The Rock, a lot of what he did was intended as comedy and he had the charisma to make any gibberish work, Al Snow, again, solid midcard comedy act who was silly and enjoyable. There's a place for all styles of wrestling in moderation.

I think corny gets misunderstood with funny doesn’t draw money in the sense he says wrestling can have funny things in matches as long as it makes sense and doesn’t ruin the suspension of disbelief

Oh yeah as I always state in these threads I believe it was the right decision to have Christian lose the world title to Orton and turn heel
That did more his career than a boring 3 month face title run

When Cornette says "funny don't make money," he means that you have to be serious in the end and guys like babyface Doink or the Bushwhackers would be death in the main event spot. The Rock is not the type of guy Cornette means when he derides comedy wrestlers because Rock's matches and angles are presented in a serious way.

Christian was the epitome of average and losing the title Randy Orton was both hilarious and absolutely the right call. Dude had little business being anything other than someone's sidekick.
(He was an amazing sidekick, I'll give him that, but solo Christian was always a no-go for me)

King Road is the most brainless and dull style of professional wrestling besides Deathmatch Wrestling. It's very paint by numbers with most matches being almost exactly the same. It's just a collection of head drops and cool moves with no rhyme or reason behind it. It took a massive toll on everybody who was ever involved in it and only was well liked because Meltzer severely overrated it.
Speaking of overrated Mitsuharu Misawa is the most overrated man to ever set foot in the ring. He had very little discernible character beyond being a guy who won all the time, and no actual charisma. All he did in the ring was throw really stiff elbows and drop people on their heads, he had basically the same match almost every day for twenty years none of which were anything special and somehow gets called the greatest of all time for it.

Funny doesn’t draw money is that if you’re only a comedy guy, you’re not a main eventer, case in point Disco and Al Snow, not main eventers.

Mike Quackenbush is one of the most lowlife promoters I’ve ever seen. If you have a falling out with him, he’ll do everything to ruin your career.
He believes that his outlaw chicken shit third rate outfit, is the only wrestling company that matters and you should be thankful for having a spot on f***ing Chikara.

They made money but they never drew money. Nobody bought a ticket to watch them perform, nobody tune in to raw or nitro because of them. You can tell jokes and do funny skits, but when the bell rings you need to be a badass in order to draw money. That’s why Al and Disco never drew a dime.
