Pretty ghoulish CGI usage.

on a sidenote {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}I get not having the Rogues in the movie for fear of them seeming "too small" to be a movie-level threat, but having the one villain who's shtick is literally "The Flash, but evil" not be in it is kinda weak. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}At the same time in the wake of Across the Spider-Verse, fearing how seriously villains can be taken is honestly going to be a silly excuse not to use them, imo. Mirror Master for example actually has some absolutely terrifying nigh-cosmic horror potential with his abilities. What I love about the Rogues is they reveal who is and isn’t a good or at least creative writer because an unskilled writer will just go, “Oh Mirror Master can go through mirrors, and Captain Cold can freeze things, look how lame they are!” while a capable writer will realize how broken most of the Rogues are. They have to be to keep up with the Flash, quite possibly the most broken hero(es) on DC’s roster. {Spoiler} the Flash CW-Verse show actually did a great job with the Rogues. Honestly, I kinda just wish we got a big budget version of that.

The current state of DC movies could never. The CW-Verse had some overall issues, but I genuinely enjoyed every show.

The CW-Verse had some overall issues, but I genuinely enjoyed every show. I really disliked how soap opera-ey they often were, but I'll give them this: they captured the spirit of the comics better than 95% of the DC movies in the last decade.

I enjoyed it but the whole film was pretty much in the trailers. I don’t think it’s a spoiler, but everyone knows it’s a Flash Point movie so the bulk of the movie gets sorta undone away at the end. Which is now the second DC movie to do that after wonder wonder 84.
The DCU just has a bad stink about it, from their other bad offerings and bad BTS drama and PR. People enjoy superhero movies still but aren’t rushing out like they used to. Had this come out a few years ago before Spider-Verse, No Way Home it might have been better received better.
Plus this Summer is stacked with forgettable blockbusters coming out weekly and people don’t want to spend their money going to the theatre unless they know it’s going to be good. Plus I don’t know why they moved it up a week, I know they wanted to avoid a big second week drop vs. Indy, but it put it right up against Elemental. I saw both movies today and well neither were very packed at all.
In case you’re wondering Elementals is good but mostly predictable. Worth waiting till it's on Disney Plus.

Funny thing is it'd actually probably do better if they'd kept it where it was at. Indiana Jones isn't tracking to do well and is reviewing poorly so it's probably not going to be that much of a threat.

Or you have him take on a team of, say, Captain Cold and Weather Wizard or Mirror Master. Ultimately, what sets the Rogues apart from other DC heroes' rogues galleries is that they have a code of honor (like no killing unless absolutely necessary) and there's some mutual respect between them and Barry. Stuff like the Christmas Truce is a good example of this understanding between the two sides as the Rogues are really just super-powered petty criminals, not psychotic mass murderers. Also means it's easier for a number of them to go straight like Captain Cold and Heat Wave have in the past.
While it seems like it's a much better movie, it does sound like The Flash is making some similar mistakes to Green Lantern. Especially in making the first movie having "unearned" stakes (Flashpoint and Parallax).

I can’t stand Ezra Miller, but I thought it was a fun watch. Anyone that would prefer Black Adam and/or the Shazam sequel over this, is outta their god damn mind.

Wild to thing WB/DC has now had two films in some form of development for a decade or more finally hit theaters and just shit the bed.

The whole... "well they couldn't just trash it for tax purposes they need to try and make some money off of it" ... really blew up in their face huh?
They've been trying to do a Flash movie since the 80's... and this is what they put out...
a movie that was plagued with backstage drama and a lead actor who committed multiple bizare headline making crimes... rushed cameos cause they had no faith in the actual story... really dodgy cgi for a movie that was going to live or die on that... being based on Flashpoint itself which is not a particularly fondly remembered story... AND is completely unearned.... AND makes itself redundant by the end...

If I'm DC I'm getting scared as hell for Aquaman right now. The movie cost a shit-ton to make and a gigantic part of why the first one managed to be as big a hit as it was was that it was enormous in China, which isn't nearly as welcoming an environment for western films now as it was then, since it wasn't really all that big domestically. Very real chance they're also going to hemorrhage a ton of money on it.

And it's official:
$12 million less than Black Adam. $49 million less than Quantumania. Only $7 million more than Morbius.
