I find it hilarious that this grossed less than Black Adam. In every multiverse out there, this should have demolished the performance of BA.

on a sidenote {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}I get not having the Rogues in the movie for fear of them seeming "too small" to be a movie-level threat, but having the one villain who's shtick is literally "The Flash, but evil" not be in it is kinda weak. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}The Flash show managed to make plenty of the B-Tier villains seem like pretty major threats. Or you have him take on a team of, say, Captain Cold and Weather Wizard or Mirror Master. Ultimately, what sets the Rogues apart from other DC heroes' rogues galleries is that they have a code of honor (like no killing unless absolutely necessary) and there's some mutual respect between them and Barry. Stuff like the Christmas Truce is a good example of this understanding between the two sides as the Rogues are really just super-powered petty criminals, not psychotic mass murderers. Also means it's easier for a number of them to go straight like Captain Cold and Heat Wave have in the past.
While it seems like it's a much better movie, it does sound like The Flash is making some similar mistakes to Green Lantern. Especially in making the first movie having "unearned" stakes (Flashpoint and Parallax). Yeah, even the flash show knew you don't start with Flashpoint and waited a few seasons to open that box. To me, WB opting to start with Flashpoint pretty much sums up a lot of what was wrong with the dceu.

I feel like this is gonna be what chases Ezra out the paint. It's one thing to be a troublemaker but a hit at the box office. You cause trouble AND your movie underperforms?! Time to go, dawg

Bares noting the $55 million number might actually end up adjusting lower since it's being elevated by expectations that Father's Day will boost it but Saturday saw a steep drop from Friday.

Which was always sort of my thing when they announced the Flash movie Flashpoint was not earned, so why would you make this a jumping off point. This should been a reset the universe movie after 10 years but DCEU wanted all the success at once without working for it. You could had easily done a Flash movie and made someone like Captain Cold a big threat to him as a starter and then you could lean into Reverse Flash and all that in later movies

You could had easily done a Flash movie and made someone like Captain Cold a big threat to him as a starter and then you could lean into Reverse Flash and all that in later movies I think it also came from execs at WB just not having faith in their properties. For years they insisted that only Superman and Batman were draws at the box office and pointed to Green Lantern as proof. Marvel's success forced their hand but, they still had no faith and chased after that success in the most cynical way. I wouldn't be surprised if they started with Flashpoint because they genuinely thought that was the only Flash story that could give them a successful movie (despite a pretty damn successful tv series).
It was the same thing though with Batman vs Superman. The whole reason them fighting in the Dark Knight Returns was such a big deal was because of the decades of friendship and respect we had seen in the comics. Before that, the idea of them going at each other that hard was almost unthinkable. And then WB said, let's start with that as they clearly missed the point and just knew that it sold a lot of comics.

At this point I’d suggest a long break between the last of these DC movies connected to the Snyderverse and launching the new universe. I know they won’t do that. But they don’t make good choices.

It wasn't much different than Snyder's universe. You have to have the vastly different world to make Flashpoint have an impact. Establish a happier world with hope in it, before unleashing Flashpoint.

In general I find DC's fascination with Flashpoint utterly bizarre. They keep adapting it and doing callbacks to it and, like, almost no one seems to actually like the damn thing to begin with.
I don't even think it's an, "It sold well!" thing, because 1), past the first issue it really didn't - as early as the third issue it was completely shut out of the top sellers for the month as was pretty much everything else DC was doing that wasn't Batman, and 2), you don't see them going out of their way to blow something like Countdown or Identity Crisis the same way.

I think it is because everyone kept bitching about how DC forever mined Crisis, so they went, “Fine, we’ll stop whoring out Crisis! We’ll just move on to a new multiversal ramifications storyline, like this new Flashpoint event we just did!” “Wait, no—!!!”

WB signed off on it but Batman fighting Superman right away was Snyder's dumb idea. Also Snyder is likely the reason they did Flashpoint so early too. Since the Snyderverse was pretty blatantly DOA. But DC has been writing and going for the big moment without warning it since at least the green lantern, and Snyder sure as hell isn't the person you tap to set things up for the future as he can't even keep a theme or character motivation straight through an entire movie.

This wouldn't surprise me at all. For the longest damn time DC/WBD seemed to think the only Batman stories worth telling were "The Dark Knight Returns" and, on a good day, "Hush", and the only Superman story worth telling was "The Death of Superman". They probably have a whole list of stories that they consider the most iconic, most legendary story for each character that they should make a movie out of and that list is like fifty percent Geoff Johns stuff.
