A bust like this should get executives fired. Knowing how Zazlav and friends go, they'll just cancel other projects instead

The Flash director has been given the new DCU Batman movie. I don't think the performance of The Flash is Muschietti's fault (he probably did the best job anyone could considering the mess surrounding the movie) but I also don't think it's a good look for the new DCU. I think they should really start afresh, and that includes the directors and main creatives behind it all as well. I know he's done great work on other movies, but can you imagine them advertising the DCU Batman movie with "From the director of The Flash" written on the posters?
Scrap it all and start with a new, blank slate. I'm sure Muschietti would make a great Batman movie but there are also some fresh directors out there that could make a great Batman movie.
As for Zaslav, he'll probably look at the performance of The Flash, sell off more of WBD's back catalog, and take home another $200+ million paycheck.

Movie wasn't terrible though Ezra as Barry was way too annoying and unlikable... there's some irony there with what happened in real life. Though always seemed like the attitude from WBD was get the movie out and move on as quickly as possible which understandable after what happened in real life.

I hope they managed to sell a lot of those Batman action figures they made from The Flash.

Guessing there was some money reason I don't understand why this wasn't written off like Batgirl around that time because ouch. Feels like they should just can Aquaman 2, keep Blue Beetle and just keep the movie slate quiet until Superman: Legacy comes out because they're going to need to wash the taste of this era of the DC movies out of the audiences mouth at this point.

Guessing there was some money reason I don't understand why this wasn't written off like Batgirl around that time because ouch. Sunk costs. They were able to claim back $20 million of the $90 million invested in Batgirl, which they deemed to be more than they'd make from it if it were released. Before marketing they'd invested some $250 million in The Flash, and probably wouldn't have gotten more than $50 million if it was written off, so pushed on ahead with it believing that it might not make a lot of money, but it would likely make more than $50 million. To quote another notoriously poor maker of financial decisions:

To quote another notoriously poor maker of financial decisions: All of this, but I also think they just genuinely thought they had a hit on their hands. They promoted The Flash in a way they didn't promote Black Adam and Shazam 2 and sure, part of that was because they wouldn't let Miller do press and Keaton was busy, but they wouldn't have spent money on a Superbowl spot and roped in Tom Cruise and Stephen King to praise the movie if they didn't believe in it. I really find it hard to believe that Batgirl was so catastrophic that it had to be canned to "preserve the image of DC" or whatever nonsense they said at the time. I think they just saw it as an easy target compared to The Flash. They kinda backed themselves into a corner, I think, by continuing to go ahead with The Flash and hyping it up so much. The hype train for The Flash started several months before release, back when the first test screening reactions leaked. Canceling it would have been a huge embarrassment in a way Batgirl wasn't. I mean, that was still pretty embarrassing IMO, but less so than The Flash would have been.

Gotta remember that WB were apparently so broke last year they couldn't afford to release more than two movies, which wound up being Don't Worry Darling and Black Adam, neither of which received heavy promotion as a result, with Rock himself shouldering most of the promotion duties via social media. They definitely didn't have faith in Shazam 2, though. That was clearly just thrown out there to die.

Saw this earlier tonight and I actually thought it was pretty fun. It had a lot of flaws mind you - the special effects were atrocious, probably the worst I've seen in a huge mainstream film in at least the past decade, and many of the characters were totally underbaked. But most of the jokes landed for me, and I dug the film's theme of learning to manage and come to terms with grief and loss. Definitely in the upper half of DC movies for me.

It only beat the Jennifer Lawrence sex romp (which did a bit better than expected) by like $200,000. This is truly a bomb for the ages. I always wonder why movies like that do so poorly now, I grew up in an era where American Pie did very well at the box office and now any type of sex comedy makes no money.
