And the "hard drop" turned out to be finishing eighth, averaging just under two grand per theatre. In it's third week. And with a new Insidious movie out this weekend and Mission: Impossible out next weekend, there's a very good chance it'll be out of the top ten by the fifth week. At the current trend, I'm pretty sure a fifth week in theaters would actually start losing WBD money. It’s down to one screening in my huge Regal theater this weekend. Not one screen. One SCREENING. In its fourth week.

American Pie was kind of an anomaly. For the most part I don't think these kinds of movies have been viable since the 80's. Mostly because the mindsets of people have changed since then. A guy spying on girls undressing getting naked with his hand down his pants isn't seen as funny, it's seen as creepy. That scene obviously doesn't hold up, but I will always love the American Pie series. I don't care what anyone says.

I expected it to underperform but damn, I didn't expect this disaster. Barry needs to mess with the timeline so that The Flash gets canned and Batgirl comes out instead. I don't think it would be possible for Batgirl to lose as much money as this is going to. I wonder if they announced today they were putting Batgirl on Max on September 1st, if there would be a groundswell of sign ups to Max JUST TO SEE if it's as bad as The Flash? Obviously they won't do it... but I wonder.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix had such a collective shrug about it, just came along and quietly shuffled off with little fanfare. Shazam 2 did the same, and now The Flash.
Weird feeling, but hard not to see the collective thing all three films had in common. Even with The Flash being, by the sound of it, better than the other two.

Even that probably has some other factors behind it, since Apocalypse made a lot less than Days of Future Past and was much worse received, plus it was a pointless remake of a widely hated movie by the same writer who was now also directing it. The franchise being dead on its feet already was definitely part of Dark Phoenix flopping as badly as it did but it probably would have anyway.

She was great as Sansa but definitely not suited to Jean. The movies went a bit off the rails as well jumping a decade with each instalment while no one was aging. There were several other issues with them too. But yeah, after the disappointment of Apocalypse, Dark Phoenix just didn't appeal.

Fair point, I'd actually forgotten about Apocalypse. Which also says a lot, really.

It's amazing how both series of X-Men movies had solid first entries, good sequels that a number of people considered better than the first, then the third movie completely nosedived in quality. They even both completely botched the Dark Phoenix story.

Flash has been overtaken by Elemental. I'd laugh out loud if Scream VI outgrossed this domestically but it's going to barely squeak through.

It's good that both the flash movie and nfts are massively popular or this night look silly.

It is worth noting that worldwide, The Flash has a better box office gross than GL. That said? It's not a huge difference and adjusting for inflation, GL likely did better there, too.

So apparently WB were completely blindsided by this somehow.
From all accounts they weren't behind a film so much since The Dark Knight... And expected it to be just as successful
Which just makes me scratch my head... Because like Why THIS movie over like any other?
No one, outside of WB I guess, seemed hyped for this movie. If anything it has antihype from a myriad of outside factors. From constant rescheduling, Ezra being a shithead, the Snyderverse being unappealing to movie goers in general, etc...
