Want Hogan back or not, using Gene's death as a rationale to bring him back is gross.

I'm trying to word this right -
firstly I understand that Mean Gene and Hogan are linked etc
however, the wrestling world has lost a lot of people, even just in the last couple of years
but who showed up from Bobby Heenan's past to euloge him on Raw, ditto Vader, or Brian Christopher (Scotty even works at the PC so it wouldn't be hard), or Dynamite (as Rotten as he is)... or Volkoff, or what if Natalya wasn't employed by the company would we get Bret brought in (and I can name more names if you go back even a couple of years), video packages and similar have been enough for these guys
call me cynical but Hogan doesn't need to be brought back for this, show video highlights yes that include Hogan

Want Hogan back or not, using Gene's death as a rationale to bring him back is gross. Is it as gross as thinking the man most associated with the career of the man who just died shouldn't be involved and instead the tribute should be paid to folk who either barely knew him or had less of an association with him to abate the selective outrage of wrestling fans? It'd be like not having Heenan (if alive) back if Monsoon were alive and passed away now. Hogan and Mean Gene are linked and I get that's inconvenient for some people but it's true.

I do understand the anger, I don't understand the shock at this company anymore. To expect them to be any different is just silly. They are what they are. They lionized Snuka, they took money from the Saudis, they give a yearly award named after one of the worst racist, sexist, homophobic, bigots in dis business; this shocks anyone?

"Well you know something Mean Gene..." is the way everyone who isn't a wrestler delivers their hypothetical wrestling promos in their head. lol. This 1000 times.

Sure but who else could have done the tribute to him under those circumstances? You're talking about wrestlers from the 70s and 80s primarily. Racist, sexist, homophobic bigots kind of rules a lot out. "Here to pay tribute to Mean Gene, a try out guy he met in 1984....."

Still gross bro, they're exploiting dude's death to do something they wanted to do anyway. So no, my thinking it's gross is objectively not as gross.

This week Hogan's on Raw. Next week he's on Ellen who's apparently going to be pulling for him to host the Oscars in 2020

I mean....yeah, no shock, just disgust. Using a man's death as a pretense to get that cretin back on tv in a way no one can complain about is....yeah. So yeah, f*** it, he'll cut his "Feel good" "Mean" Gene promo, and there it is, he's back like nothing ever happened....f*** Terry Bollea, honestly, f*** him.

Hogan returning to Raw to give a tribute to Mean Gene is already overshadowing the tribute itself. It takes some light off of Mean Gene, puts it on the "well Hogan's back on Raw" comment and in turn it's more about 2 things rather than the 1 thing it needs to be about, Mean Gene. That's why it's a bad idea regardless if you're for or against Hogan. The man has passed, it's nasty.

Can't wait for him to go on a rememberance of Gene, only for him to immediately make it about himself, and then start talking about "those people" who ruined his life.
Pretty sure I'm never watching WWE programming ever again.

Maybe it's the Huckster being interviewed by Scheme Gene in the ultimate heel swerve?

Announcing it before hand is gross. You want to use him as a talking head in tribute to Gene; then fine; I think most of us get that. But promoting it is gross, and I say this as someone who usually is not on the firebrand side of this argument.

The question still remains though, if the racism rules out Hogan, who else is there?
Isn't it the case that Gene deserves to have tributes paid to him on the weekly television show of the company whose popularity he was instrumental in helping to establish, by people he was closest to and most associated with?
It seems people are prioritising their own preferences over what Gene would have wanted and his legacy deserves.

I think, taking away all the awfulness of Hogan away from this thread, the saddest thing to me is how few people who, when I think of Mean Gene, are already gone.
Alive: Vince Flair Hogan Roberts Sheik
Dead: Savage Piper Heenan Rude Andre Perfect
