Nobody thinks Sunny could have went much, much further if the drugs hadn't taken total control of her life? She was a major focal point in WWF in 1996-1998. Then all of a sudden she was just, gone. Even when she had brief returns in 2007 and 2011 she still looked amazing. With Vince's blonde fetish and her very legit claim to being the original Diva of WWF / WWE I don't see why she wouldn't have a Legends contract, appearances at WWE Axxess and other such WWE events and royalty checks coming in for years to come.

Sunny lost her protector when Shawn Michaels left. Sunny didn't last much longer and was gone by summer.

What I'd heard regarding her release..... she was loaned out to ECW in 1998, still in good standing with Vince, and basically did a promo when she got there bashing Vince and the WWF for sending her there. Vince seemed to take it personally and said "Well, if she doesn't like the arrangement, let her stay there" and released her immediately. tl;dr - don't give Vince your ego and a reason to release you at the same exact time.

Whether drugs were a factor in Sunny's WWF downfall or not, she definitely had too much too soon and lost it just as quickly and that had to be difficult on her. She was the original diva, pre-Attitude era and was the most downloaded on AOL (not sure if kayfabe) and had several pinups in the WWF magazine BUT then Sable came along and quickly became the fan favorite and was pushed harder as a solo act while Sunny had no one to manage nor a real direction in the company. Her 1997-1998 run seems to mirror Billy Graham's run 10 years earlier with WWF giving her the commentator run and having a random person (persons, LOD) to manage though that was the reverse of Graham. Eventually, just like Graham, WWF had no choice but to let her go.
I think she probably saw the writing on the wall by late 1996 when she was relegated to commentating on one random match at Survivor Series. You could even hear the disdain she had in her voice for Sable and honestly, for what little good Sable did I get Sunny's perspective. At 23, her career was already going downhill and that has to be hard for anyone, drug addict or not. If she had already dabbled in drugs I can see it getting worse. If she had yet to try drugs, I can see any mental or emotional or depression issues bringing her to drugs or alcohol.

Heidenreich. He was essentially a Brock Lesnar clone who debuted in a program with Undertaker. Now he’ll only be remembered for raping Michael Cole and his rivalry with Alabama Doink.

Sean Royal of the New Breed. They were cutting some amazingly weird promos in the NWA in 1987 and were poised for a feud with the R n R Express until a car accident hurt Chris Champion. Royal did some solo work, then Champion came back but they didnt get the momentum back right away. He then just quit to be a construction worker.
He did some New Japan work in 93, and indie stuff later, but he nothing ever came of it. He could work, he could talk, and had a good look. He had so much potential and just gave up on the business.

I'm going to add Abyss to the running list, considering that he's had chances to go to the WWE and become a solid mid-card player with a good paycheck, and stayed with Impact.

Unfortunately his stage fright derailed his opportunities. He has a very low self opinion of himself and needs constant validation, he would’ve never survived the wwe atmosphere of Vince yelling at him every time he did something wrong.

If she had yet to try drugs, I can see any mental or emotional or depression issues bringing her to drugs or alcohol. According to Bruce Prichard, Sunny was already using drugs and was quickly becoming unreliable. That is why they relegated her to commentary, reffing and t-shirt sales.

Buddy Roberts.
He did the heavy work for the freebirds but Gordy and Hayes saw all the success, and he ain’t got shit.

They'd have bullied him out of the business.

Abyss just wants instant validation and that hurt his career.

I think it would have to be Sean O’Haire to me. He had a great look, solid build and he was decent in the ring. He had a good run in WCW but then they closed. They stuck him with Piper in WWE but had nothing for him once they released Piper for his comments on HBO’s Real Sports. He made one appearance in New Japan. He had one more dark match for WWE in 2006 and that was it. He also had an unsuccessful run at kickboxing and MMA. Then he battled alcoholism and got into a lot of fights. One fight resulted in him losing part of his vision. He also battled depression which unfortunately led to his suicide.
I wish he would’ve stuck with wrestling. He could’ve grinded it out in TNA for a bit and found himself. He was still young. I think he could’ve gotten better and went back to WWE eventually. I really thought O’Haire could’ve been a big star. I thought the biggest downside to him was his name. Sean O’Haire just isn’t a strong enough wrestling name. Sid Vicious never would’ve gotten over as big as he did if he was called Sid Eudy. Sid Vicious just sounded cool. Dingo Warrior only went so far. The Ultimate Warrior became a world champion and one of the most memorable and important wrestlers of the 90s. Presentation and image matters in wrestling. I think a more marketable name would have helped him.

I'd say Sexy Star was set to be the next big thing in women's wrestling. Her run in Lucha Underground exposed her to a much wider audience, her story was touching, made her sympathetic and made you want to root for her, and, while not the best worker, she was decent in the ring. Plus, she's exactly what Vince McMahon looks for in a female wrestler: a pretty blonde with fake boobs.
However, her attitude and her shooting on Rosemary have all but guaranteed she'll never work outside of Mexico again.

Ashley Massaro.
She won the divas search. She got into the business in a time where women didn’t have to wrestle. She posed for playboy. But then she just disappeared.

Buddy was around for years before he was brought into the Freebirds, a good ten-plus years older than the other two. By the time he joined the 'Birds, he had already spent a decade as part of the Hollywood Blondes, one of the top regional tag teams, and which held gold and main-evented in Mid-South, Florida, LA, Mid-Atlantic, and Continental. Not real sure any potential Roberts had was wasted.
