I really hope she realizes that there's a very good chunk of the audience that she's never going to gain back because of this. Even if it was at the blessing of Vince and co., dragging the whole business through the mud to try to move the needle on a floundering feud was ridiculous. Wouldn't be shocked if this isn't the last time they keep having her come off as 'Captain Badass' while the other two hardly acknowledge her outside of the ring at this point.

This is one of those situations where I can live in blissful ignorance. I don't have, read, understand or care about Twitter, thank f***ing christ.

People keep comparing it to movies... but there are plenty of movies where people break the fourth wall, films within films, films where actors play themselves making a film etc. Ronda and Becky feuding to the point Ronda snaps and breaks character, shits on the WWE and threatens to legit hurt her opponent is a story. You can argue it's a shit one... but it is a story. I don't think it's really comparable; something like Being John Malkovich acknowledges John Malkovich as an actor, but not that the movie itself is fake and he's just an actor in the movie. It's very different to screaming "THIS IS FAKE AND YOU'RE DUMB IF YOU THINK IT'S REAL" in the middle of a movie.

Yeh,wrestling has those smAll 4th wall moments, like when Triple comments "Didnt you(kofi) use to be jamaican?" And there was people that definitely though the pipe bomb was a real shoot, but it came from something boiling over time, and most important it was very well planed and works in kayfabe too. You just reflected the real-life issues people had with the product without straight up going "THIS IS SCRIPTED"

This whole worked shoot nonsense isn't that at all. Definitely.was just putting it in example. And before someone says Deadpool...that is a whole different thing. But maybe a insane character in wrestling that acts as if everything is scripted and pre-determined and is treated as a insane person could work?

I was playing Slay the Spire earlier and the game called me a bitch for caring about it and reminding me it's just a fake video game.

The in-ring heel stuff that Ronda is doing works. And it's what she should have been doing, from the moment Becky challenged her on the Raw after the Royal Rumble. If the WWE didn't think Ronda was going to be booed in favour of Becky, then they're complete idiots.
If they'd just let her turn heel, then none of the stupid, meta, social media crap would have been necessary.

The pipebomb angle worked for Punk because every single thing he said and did (pre HHH) was in kayfabe. FANS decided to take that and run with it. Wellllllllll come on now. Let's not pretend they weren't playing the worked shoot card. He was very clever to phrase it all within kayfabe, but they literally had the mic pretend to get cut off because he 'went too far.' Now, there's obviously a huge difference between "they won't push me even though I'm a great wrestler" and "wrestling is fake." But both presume the audience is smarts, and both are pretend-shoots in the sense that someone's come out and airing backstage dirty laundry. It was still within the context of him beating Cena in a match would prove he's the best. It was shooty in the 'you won't put me on the cups'and such, but still firmly within the kayfabe of "I'm going to prove I'm the better wrestler."

Deadpool knows he's in a comic book/movie, but it's never "Hey audience you know this is fake and you should just go outside, right?" He still treats what happens as things that are happening, which is a big part of making it work out in a way that kind of makes sense. It's always still Deadpool the character being Deadpool the character, joking about running out of budget to film an actual shootout scene isn't quite Deadpool taking off his mask and saying "My name is Ryan Reynolds and I think you're stupid"

I am going to beat you at Money in the Bank in a wrestling match and prove that I am the best in the world was his entire point... not I'm going to get all the pushes and the money and not follow the script John Cena. It was flat out I am going to out wrestle you. Deadpool kinda does call itself a movie in universe... but ... that's a wacky comedy... you really aren't supposed to take it seriously anyway... I'm Ryan Reynolds these guns are all props... this guy isn't actually made of metal... etc. but that was the closest I could come too... and that's not even really comparable

Nothing revolutionary or verboten about messing with the fourth wall or delving into downright overt metafiction, but only wrestling goes for "We're breaking the fourth wall to let you know this is real".

The only real case I can think of where something acknowledged it was fictional in a way that was directly stating it was all meaningless is an episode of OK KO and that was being played for existential horror.

Like damn, you didnt even need to do any work to have the heel turn, literally just a beat down.

Deadpool's fourth wall breaking works because the entire character is tongue-in-cheek and also has very clever writing.
Ronda Rousey is neither tongue-in-cheek nor seems capable of clever writing. Last time I checked, Deadpool didn't stop his movie midway to go "This movie? Totally fake. And you're idiot marks for thinking it's real! IDIOTS!"
