First and foremost, 2019 really is gunning for the 90’s. Second, why are people so shocked? A rich and famous’ person’s little trustfund swilling spawn had an easy way into top schools? Say it ain’t so!!! And they generally don't have to pay $500,000 because an admissions board will let a rich and famous person's children into a school, just to possibly get their parents as donors.

Guys like Hacksaw Jim Duggan had to earn their way into college. Working as a part-time janitor, cleaning toilets, selling every championship title belt he found for the scrap metal.

Just read a whole article about this. Makes my stomach churn, ESPECIALLY the part about faking Learning Disabilities. Knowing that I got a break in money because of my real disability and still having to fight for my diploma because I took a semester of for mental health issues f***ing pisses me off. At what point do we say we need to take action with more than "I'll take a stance on twitter?" Same here, man. I worked myself ragged through college, to the point where I came very close to nearly dropping out for a semester due to my brain nearly snapping from stress due to being a full-time Biochem major and also working a part-time job in order to pay for it. Add on top of it that I've got Asperger's Syndrome and that semester was just a recipe for disaster.

The parents are awful for doing this this.
But the colleges are even shittier for accepting the bribes, and not telling them to f*** off.

Do you think the kids know as well, or are they just waking up today to discover that they're absolute idiots?

I gotta tell you, I thought this is exactly how American Unis worked and am surprised it’s a scandal.

Oh, I didn't even know Lori Loughlin's daughter was some instagram brat. I kinda hate her now. I swear as soon as I gather the infinity gems all social media is going away... except this board.

I gotta tell you, I thought this is exactly how American Unis worked and am surprised it’s a scandal. Well, yes and no. Do the rich get tremendous access for their children because of outrageous tuition/donations? Absolutely. The reason it's a scandal is because of the attempt to cover up that that's what this is. LL Cool Becky's daughter's admission was the result of her mom paying for someone at the school to say she was a prospect for the rowing team, when she'd never rowed in her life. It's sad to think about the actual girl who was great at rowing out there who wanted to go that that spot could and should have gone to. Filliam H Muffman's scandal comes from them hiring someone to take their daughter's SATs (essentially an admission test) for them. I may have the two daughters confused, but these are the two things that happened. It's this super weird backwards ass off-the-books way of getting someone in. There's so many legal ways they could have just thrown money to get their idiot children into college, but for some reason they deliberately went the crimecrimecrime route. It's baffling.

Yeah, the whole thing here is that they tried to create a "side door" to get their kids into the schools. The front door is the kid being accepted on their merits, while the backdoor is rich mommy or daddy donating a building or something else to the school to guarantee admission (I'm enormously against that, as well, but sadly, it's legal and nobody does anything about it).
I read a bit recently from some people who've been on the international stage with regards to things like politics and other global issues, people who came from more humble backgrounds and who, to some degree, earned their way into most of what they got (though "earning" implies a well-working meritocracy, which does not, has not, and will never exist). What stuck out a lot to me was how those folks from the humbler background saw a lot of major world leaders, entrepreneurs, and other powerful figures who came from more privileged backgrounds - basically, that those born into their wealth often weren't particularly brilliant or innovative, they just grew up getting all the right connections and favors done to guarantee they'd be in powerful positions of some kind or another.
Obviously that doesn't apply in 100% of situations, but there really is a global quasi-aristocracy thing going on where where you're born and whom you're born to end up mattering more than anything else in determining what schools someone gets into, or how high they can climb in the rat race (or dodge the rat race, altogether) once they're out of school.

Honestly, I thought that was just how the America higher education system worked, with the best schools essentially ring-fenced for people with millions to spend. The ivy league schools tend to have more money in reserve than venture capital firms and nobody bats an eye... Guess you need to need wealth in the hundreds of millions for buying status for your offspring to be okay.

Guess you need to need wealth in the hundreds of millions for buying status for your offspring to be okay. The tragedy is that it's the reality of how almost the entirety of American society works...and, let's face it, most of Western society, as a whole, just to varying levels.

I just hate people with no ethics and there are plenty of poor people who fall into that category too. Yes, that is so true. However, I'm mainly referring to those people born rich who get everything handed to them and are out of touch with the real world. At least when somebody born poor or middle class works hard for their money, they don't let it get to their heads. Keavu Reeves and Terry Crews are examples of this. They had difficult lives, yet worked hard and are very well respected for their philanthropy and just being good people.
