but if Kofes gonna be moving forward as a main event guy, theres gotta be less dancing, less comedy and more seriousness. His personality, as well as his athleticism may have got him to the dance but if he becomes champion his character is gonna have to seriously grow up. Pancakes, trombones, always being flanked by his buddies won't work when he's the top dog and WWE know it, so how well do you expect them to handle his transition?
I think a lot of people are gonna have to check themselves if he becomes champion and be careful what they wished for.

It's time for a change anyway.
And Kofi 100% deserves to hold the WWE belt at least once. Even if he frowns forever after that win a la Jack Swagger, it will be 100% worth it.

People became fans of Kofi before New Day aka before all of that so nobody is gonna be upset. We've seen Kofi as the straight good guy athlete far longer than we've seen him and his boys jonning.

Interestingly, these past few weeks have been good in showing a more “serious” New Day, particularly in response to Vince screwing them around.

Yeah, not gonna lie, gonna be hard to buy the guy as a world champ if he spends his time going on and on about pancakes or whatever the next "Hey, this word's funny, isn't it?" word it is.

Kofi to start wearing suits and speaking in monotone confirmed.
People love New Day, even if they don’t change anything about Kofi he’ll be taken just as seriously. It’s Kofi, he’s like a modern day Ricky Steamboat, people are going to like him no matter what he gets up to.

Kofi is fine. Cena was a top guy for years, and wasn't always super serious. Kofi, and the fans, are gonna be just fine.

Kofi's been shown to be a ratings draw as it is, and New Day makes money hand over fist merch-wise. Additionally they've proven they're very good at juggling comedy with seriousness when they need to.
So I'm really not seeing the issue here.

If anything this has proven that they've got a good grasp of the balance between silly New Day and serious New Day

So when he becomes champion, they will write him plain and boring? Sounds about right.

One of the reasons crowds were so divided on Cena was precisely because of some of the silly shit he did like "JBL is poopy". Cena's rejection was a deeply complex and intricate situation, but there's a lot of really big differences in the cases. No way Kofi spends years on top; this is going to be a short run well under a year long and it's not going to come with superman booking or anything of the sort. The crowd is having no trouble buying him now as a viable world champion even with the comedy stuff he's done in the past, and since this story began he hasn't really been cutting ten minute comedy promos that are just thinly veiled ass eating jokes, but also I don't think him showing his funnier side is all that bad if it doesn't overstay its welcome with the crowd. New Day has always been presented as a team of dudes who like to mess around rather than as all-out comedy guys. It's all about balance and not going too far with it, I think it'll be fine. Ambrose stayed over as WWE champion in the early Smackdown days and he was super deep into comedy-leaning material too; he made it work and the crowd stayed with it.

I'd imagine his goofy persona will be the main thing future heels use against him in promos anyway. (Depending how long he keeps it and doesn't just loses to Bryan at the next PPV or whatever). Like "You're not a credible champion dancing around handing out pancakes!" etc. so he'll probably stay the same. The whole gimmick is the power of positivity. If he suddenly stopped being cheerful and positive after it led him to the WWE title it wouldn't really make sense. He's already shown his serious side in the last few weeks successfully too.
Also let's not act like the Rock didn't come out every week talking about monkey's anuses and other wacky comedy shit and since then they've tried to give every main eventer comedy promos like Roman's sufferin succotash nonsense and all the garbage Cena comes out with.

The New Day are incredibly smart and know where to draw the line between funny/serious and when to be one over the other. This build has been a great showcase of how versatile they are.

I agree that something will have to change with him...not entirely but as WWE champion he is gonna have to develop an edge to him because we have seen it every single time....once that journey is over with and whoever becomes the top dog if you are being hokey or whatever that crowd loyalty will shift in an instance.
Hell even the gawd damn Rock had it happen to him and he had to turn into HollyWood Rock to eventually win them back.

A guy that likes unicorns and pancakes is too "Crazy" to be a champion but a dude that thinks he's a biker zombie mortician, a self proclaimed sexy boy covered in sequins or a ex rapper fake marine who was stabbed in the kidney by Jesus who he then defeated at Armageddon is considered perfectly normal.
