Big E tweets that Hogan personally apologized

Big E tweeted that Hogan gave him a real apology last night and he accepts it. This is what many have said Hogan didn’t do, but it sounds like he finally man’d up and accepted responsibility and apologized from his heart. Do you think this is enough to move on from his racist remarks?

EDIT: Changing the title because nowhere in the tweet does Big E accept the apology, just that he appreciated Hogan giving one and that it's a start. - Madison

Yeah this is one of those things where I don't see how making it right with one person suddenly fixes everything.

I hate myself for this, but I doubt Big E's acceptance of Hulk is 100%.

He probably sees that they're making nice with him so he put out a bare minimum statement that has some truth.

I feel bad for thinking this way, though.

Like Big E said, people deserve a shot at redemption. If he owned up and admitted his wrong doing and is truly sorry, why is it something that can’t be moved on from?

He could have just not said anything. If Hogan took New Day to the side and gave a sincere apology and not just saying he was sorry he got caught, I think that is pretty good of him/

It's the fact that this coincides with Hulk being so visible on WWE TV that gives me pause.

This is something I don't think you and many others who have defended Hogan understand, not everybody thinks he's truly sorry and nothing he's done shows he's sorry. Hogan talked to Big E and Big E thinks he's sorry but that's something we didn't see and everyone has different levels of believing Hogan. Mark Henry was cool with Hogan shortly after, Big E took a while, others still aren't cool with him. There's levels of what everyone will accept depending on who they are as people.

Just because one black man accepts Hogan back doesn't mean we all accept Hogan back.

Good for Big E, I'm happy he's not going to hang onto it.

Personally wouldn't mind never seeing Hogan again, but whatever. If he's making amends with people he's hurt, then good.

Meh.

I believe in forgiveness and second chances but if it took that long for Hogan to actually own what he did after literally almost half a decade of time to reflect on it, then it’s hard for me to accept the sincerity of his apology. Hogan’s been framing his “apologies" for years now with “don’t get caught getting recorded, Brother!” and that’s really missing the forest for the trees with regard to how offensive his comments were. 

I’ll post Titus O’Neil's response as of a few months ago with an excerpt in bold that sums up my thoughts entirely:

To my gracious fans and the WWE Universe.

The reports and rumors concerning my concerning my boycotting Extreme Rules in Pittsburgh is false and inaccurate. I was not scheduled to attend or participate in the Extreme Rules match/production and otherwise was not booked for the show.

The talent present in Pittsburgh, which I was a part of, was asked to attend a mandatory meeting in which Mr. Terry Bollea addressed everyone and informed the same that he would be reinstated into the WWE Hall of Fame. At no point during, after or otherwise did I make any scene concerning Mr. Bollea’s communication to the talent. In addition, let it be known that I did not refuse to shake Mr. Bollea’s hand; we did not have any type of one-on-one interaction whatsoever that would or did necessitate any exchange between us individually.

As to the reinstatement of Mr. Bollea, I can only communicate that I am a proponent of second and even third chances for individuals that show true remorse, acknowledgement of wrongdoing, fulfill their punishment, if applicable, and otherwise put forth sincere efforts to correct the issues.

Unfortunately, I must echo the sentiment and dissatisfaction expressed by many of my fellow contemporaries concerning Mr. Bollea’s apology and its lack of true contrition, remorse and a desire to change. Mr. Bollea’s apology “that he didn’t know he was being recorded” is not remorse for the hateful and violent utterances he made which reprise language that has caused violence against blacks and minorities for centuries.

I stand firm in my position that Mr. Bollea is entitled to reinstatement; he was and is a role model, hero and icon to countless people. I hope that Mr. Bollea’s missteps in communicating to the WWE talent in Pittsburgh are not repeated to his fans and I expect that he shall pursue an agenda that clearly communicates to all third parties that his language was inappropriate, wrong and should not be tolerated in a civilized and inclusive society.

As the father of two young black men, I have spent their entire life and the majority of my adult life with a singular focus; being a role model for my children and young black boys and girls. I take tremendous pride in my charity work and the community outreach that I have fostered via the platform I have been given. I teach my sons love and tolerance for everybody, but I also teach them to operate in truth and respect.

I hope this clears up any confusion. I, like New Day, will continue to use my platform to positively affect, entertain, embrace, celebrate and love people from all backgrounds both inside and outside of the WWE Universe.

I think that Hogan should just go away mainly. Dude is a useless old man.

Good for Big E. If he has softened his heart towards Hulk, but that doesn’t and shouldn’t absolve him in anyone else’s eyes. Formulate your own thoughts and opinions on the matter. If him apologizing to Big E. is good enough for you as fan, cool, if it’s not that’s also cool. Think for yourself.

I believe it was South Park who said “Jesse Jackson is not the president of black people!!” Just because one prominent person accepts or condemns a persons actions, doesn’t mean all people of his race are expected to follow suit.

As I said in the Mania thread, I marked out when Hogan came out but I 100% get it if people weren’t cool with it.

Exactly. I'm tired of all these "well (insert black person) accepts Hogan back so what about you" stuff. People really tried to do that with Mark Henry shortly after.

I wasn’t implying anything about a hive mind or even directing this post at black members of the board. Just wondering if him possibly owning what he said and apologizing for it made others want to give him another chance.

I wasn’t trying to say since Big E accepts his apology all black people should, I was asking if Hogan giving a real apology and accepting fault for what he said gave anyone closure.

Since Hogan’s return into the WWE fold, everybody has been very careful with their words, so I think it is important to note that Big E did not say he accepted Hogan’s apology, but that he appreciated the apology. Here is his tweet:

(“I’d like to think everyone deserves a path to redemption. I appreciate Hulk Hogan taking the time to apologize & hear my position today.”)

This is a step in the positive direction, mostly because of the word “hear”. From the start Hogan needed to listen to people.
