Baron Corbin as Kurt Angle's WM opponent. If it wasn't hyped up as some big surprise, I think it would've gone over a little better. No, that was a best surprise. The match was a 7 star classic, to boot.

Wow, STRONG disagree. It's easily one of the greatest surprises in WWE history. Cena was nowhere close to coming back, according to all the reports at the time. And no one for a second, pro writer or fan, suspected that the reports were off in anyway whatsoever. That pop was genuine shock on all levels of wrestling fandom, and a tremendous moment IMHO. The crowd reaction is so damn funny: "Huh?! Can it be? YES! John Cena is back! Awesome!!!!" *Loud pop* "Wait a minute...We hate John Cena! Booo!" That was Brock, last Sunday! Shock, then booing lol.

Rockabilly as Honky Tonk's protege. It eventually led to the New Age Outlaws but that was a big old fart in a church when it was revealed. Vince's commentary when he debuted was amazing though. He let out a half excited "ROCKABILLY!" then there was an awkward silence and he said "I don't understand this at all". Still makes me laugh. Also Rockabilly's music made it all worthwhile!

Rey Mysterio as #30 in the 2014 Royal Rumble. There's no way anyone besides Vince thought the crowd would accept anyone but Daniel Bryan in that spot. This wasn't really a surprise so much as everyone forgot about the video package. Like, I remember watching it with a friend, and right around #30 they mentioned that Mysterio was the one guy on the graphic that hadn't come out yet and sure enough, a few seconds later, sad Mysterio.

Kurt Angle: "Jason Jordan." I love the "but daaaaaaaad" jokes! I honestly wish he never got injured because I think he was finally finding his groove as the spoiled entitled son of a legend character that seemed to be going with him.

It was an awkward first couple months, but Jordan really started getting comfortable on the mic while his in ring work was always top notch. I'm glad we got that Seth vs. Miz vs. Balor match at WM, the circumstances behind it just sucked since it was reported to be Rollins vs. Jordan.

Teddy Long screwing over The Undertaker at Breaking Point in 2009. Why? What did Taker do to Teddy. As far as I'm concerned, Teddy had tons of people facing Taker. Perhaps those impromptu matches got to his head. What justified that brief heel turn?
Eric Escobar. That is all.
Anonymous Raw GM. That whole saga had no payoff at all.

Maybe not a “surprise”, but the 20 times WWE tried to sell Cena vs. Orton as an event after the shine was well off and the build was greeted with crickets.
Vince desperately wanted this to be a thing, but Cena never clicked with Orton like he did with Edge or Punk.

Hasn't this garbage human even done that more than once? Twice. 2015 and 2018. And in 2016, 2017, and 2019, he's drawn 24th once and 28th twice. Dolph is the dirt worst in Rumbles, because you're always wondering if there's one last mystery entrant or injury return, and... *RECORD SCRATCH* In 2015 they were literally chanting LETS GO ZIGGLER around number 28 because he was the most over non Bryan dude in the Rumble

Two major recent ones that stick out are Corbin as Angle’s final Mania opponent, and that time Ziggler came back to be #30 in the Rumble just weeks after he quit in storyline.

Kind of surprised I haven't seen Roman as #30 in the 2017 Rumble. I remember people expecting Rollins or Samoa Joe or some other NXT name debuting and then Roman's music hits and people got sooooo mad. The fan reaction videos on youtube are hilarious. Though I'll be honest, that is my most favorite moment of WWE straight trolling the fans.

Vince as the higher power was such a letdown. So many options you could have gone with. I'm sure I recall newz at the time that the plan was for it to be Owen, but then...you know what happened. Oh it was newz. But said newz circulated AFTER Over the Edge. That or it being Brian Pillman who likewise faked his death. (Go to Google Groups and search "Higher Power, Owen, and/or Pillman" if you don't believe it)

Billy Gunn having a surprise under a sheet for The Rock at Summerslam '99, and it winds up being some nameless woman we hadn't seen before and haven't seen since. I truly believe that woman was some random office employee's wife and Vince McMahon was laughing like crazy at the woman being used in such a way that should humiliate her for her shortcomings, in his eyes. And he probably had the staff member right by his side to watch the whole thing. Nia Jax has it easy. Yeah it's also because of her bloodlines, but I shudder to think of her being booked in the '90s. And she was bodyshamed for an angle, but did get revenge for it. People have other elements of their own that they're glad are now stuck in the Attitude Era, but for me bodyshaming is one of them. Weird to think that in all the forms of entertainment, *wrestling* is the one where I see the most female size acceptance now. You'd think it and not Hollywood would be the ones still doing fatty falldown characters, for instance.

Rockabilly as Honky Tonk's protege. It eventually led to the New Age Outlaws but that was a big old fart in a church when it was revealed. Funny thing was that Billy rejected Honky's offer weeks before. Honky's protege and was supposed to end up being Disco Inferno but he resigned with WCW so Billy had to be inserted at the last minute. Makes you wonder why they started this angle if they didn't have the guy under contract to begin with.
