Especially since, it's not something NJPW hasn't dipped into in the past for fodder. Wasn't the whole shtick of CHAOS, especially Okada, that they wanted the titles, not for prestige, but for fat checks? Like, I kinda got the idea the Rainmaker thing was Okada being a star athlete type in contrast to Tanahashi's goody two shoes act, very "f*** you, pay me". It was mostly through recap videos( but official NJPW ones) that i watched But wasnt one of implied reasons that Gedo turned on Okada that Okada stoped making money for him (aka winning titles)? Okada wanted to go on without a manager from here on in his career after Dominion 2018, so Gedo turned on him and joined Jay White

Sabre and Phantasmo both retained their belts.

Highlight for me was Juice throwing the ROH Tag title out of the ring. You can tell he's happy to be done with the promotion.
Lowlight was Nicholls coining their team "Mad Juice" while Juice himself clearly thought "I hate you and miss Debbie-Chan."

As I've said, once AEW gets their tv show going, expect New Japan to start working with them.

Nice to see Goto get some heat back on Jay and Gedo, but all Goto fans live like Gooby in those old Dolan Duck memes where he's in the car and suspiciously eyeing Dolan, just waiting to get japed again. Well, whatever the result of that G1 match, here's to it just leading to something, pls.
Zach Sabre's victory promos were gold, though once again he was served warm pilsner backstage when everyone knows only ale can be served room temperature. Get that man his gin and tonic, scrambled tofu, and cold brewed black coffee or double shot espresso.

Well, whatever the result of that G1 match, here's to it just leading to something, pls. They could pick-up the (seemingly dropped) storyline about the more-aggressive side of Goto that kicked off the year. They were invested enough that they called it out in the History of CHAOS series on YouTube, although at the time it also included Ospreay and Ishii. It just went away, and everybody involved were just happy to be tagging with Tana and Taguchi every week. To pull from an idea I saw elsewhere - now that the Shibata connection was remade, as well as used to bring in KENTA, they could spin them off into a new group. It could be KENTA, Goto and the LA Dojo YLs. Maybe bring in Dragon Lee as their Jr. rep due to his Shibata connection as well. My only issue here is that New Japan needs to see what KENTA they will get in the G1. If it's the one from the Marufuji match last year, they may not want that guy leading a faction. If he returns to form, then you have a company pillar and title contender to work alongside Goto (who would be playing a gatekeeper role like EVIL/Fale/Ishii). It should be noted that KENTA probably won't be full-time though, as he's not based in Japan. He will be based in Florida due to his family.

I get the feeling that some of the earlier year stuff might have been changed once KUSHIDA left and Ospreay was called on to keep up that babyface role for the juniors (despite spending time against heavyweights earlier in the year, too). Still, NJPW booking often keeps stuff in the back pocket to draw from when they feel they need it, so it's possible something might still be there, if unlikely. I still remember that even once CHAOS and Hontai seemed to be getting along fine there was still a six man tag with Okada/Tanahashi/Goto on one side where it seemed clear that Goto was not pleased to be tagging with Tana, I'd love to see that built on, though I'm not holding my breath.

The final night of backstage comments was uploaded. It sounds like Suzuki might interfere in the G1, possibly helping Taichi.

And now I'm really starting to think that if Okada is going to win the G1, maybe let Umino actually beat Naito for the spot. Let Okada get cocky as hell, and win the G1, running down Naito for losing his spot in the G1. And then let Okada's hubris be his downfall at Wrestle Kingdom.

Also, it's nice that Kota has to start talking for himself now that Kenny's not around to shield him from that.

Anyone know what that submission hold that Sabre used to beat Tacos was called? The website lists it as a modified Jim Breaks Armbar.
