I'm not at all opposed to the idea of a general wrestling award... but a specifically WWE one makes it pretty inherently meaningless and makes it super obvious someone got paid off to make this happen. Anything that's not part of ESPN's grasp gets no real mention on their 9 consecutive hours of Stephen A. Smith banter.

This makes WWE legit by being associated with the ESPYS & real sports. It's better than being nominated for an MTV Award with scripted fights from TV Shows & Movies.

If it's an actual vote Ronda will probably win. I highly doubt thousands/millions of WWE fans will bother voting so most of the people on the ESPY website will be random sports fans who know Ronda and will have no idea who the other three are. I'm sure a lot of people will read about Roman coming back from cancer, even if they don't know who he is, and vote for him though.

Yeah Roman's return from cancer goes above Ronda and anyone winning a fictional title. That's something that everyone can understand compared to a fictional title win. Wrestling has this "fake" stigma around it but one thing you can't fake is someone returning after cancer.

The only way Roman doesn`t win is if the troll brigade does in full swing

I voted for Roman.
And also for Ruiz as the biggest upset.

WWE gets the nod because as far as ESPN is concerned, WWE is the only wrestling that exists (outside of Dan LeBatard's fascination with Joey Ryan). Something tells me that ESPN isn't going out of its way to watch New Japan or AAA, though maybe AEW will get some attention from them once their weekly TV show gets going.

Someone defeating a life-threatening illness is always gonna win. And I'm not even using the "oh the rest won scripted titles" argument, because it was definitely about more than just "winning a scripted title" for Kofi and Becky. But Roman still wins this one.

1) Kofi
2) Becky
As someone else mentioned Roman will win and the likely reason for this entire category is a tie-in to the V Foundation.

On the WWE-in-sports-awards front, it got little reported but Charlotte Flair won best female athlete on social media at the Hashtag Sports Awards. The ceremony is on Tuesday, and interestingly she was the only wrestler represented in the nominees and competed against athletes like Lindsey Vonn and Naomi Osaka. awards.hashtagsports.com/shortlist-2019/

"hey d'you hear about this uh, Vince McMahon and ESPN are starting their own football league to compete with the NFL? there's not much known about the specifics about this new league except this - IT WILL SUCK"

I really can't argue against Roman winning this one. If I were to rank them: 1. Roman 2. Kofi 3. Becky 4. Ronda Realistically Ronda's would be like 90th.

Yeah, smells like a PR stunt or WWE paid ESPN some money to make this happen.
Like this is absolutely a blatant way of making them look relevant when there’s more evidence they aren’t then they are.

Yesterday I said this was cool, but after thinking about it, I changed my mind. Come to think of it, this is stupid. They are just doing it to give Reigns an award for his Cancer. That's cheap & low. So, I change my mind. This is pointless and shouldn't happen.

So, I change my mind. This is pointless and shouldn't happen. And the sad thing is, you honestly don’t even need to do that. It’s a genuinely feel good story that has been widely recognized by the media. It’s weirdness when you’re patting yourself on the back for that rather than, say, doing more to improve awareness on the type of cancer Roman has and such.
