So they crowned the winner tonight.
Shockingly, Titus O’Neal becoming the first 24/7 Champion pulled off the upset.
...
Yeah, Roman Reigns won. Not that it didn’t deserve it but this whole thing feels so awkward, “deserving” feels like a weird thing to say.

It's really something to think about how this was the year of all years that Roman Reigns actually got relatively depushed by his standards. Like, of all the years.

"I know he's got some good will for a change, but let's never actually have him on Smackdown and just face Shane in an endless feud. Gotta get Shane O' over big."

This is a pre-show or online award, right? They’re not actually going to present it at the ceremony in front of thousands of groaning sports fans.

Especially when the other nominees were “scripted” title wins and the like versus Roman’s very-real bout with leukemia.

Given the ESPYs' ties with Jimmy V's emotional speech and raising millions of dollars for the Jimmy V Foundation every year, it couldn't be anyone else winning that BUT Roman Reigns.

I didn't think they could book Roman worse but drafting him to Smackdown then immediately killing the brand split and having him in an endless Shane/McIntyre/Elias loop is like sheer agony...

Roman lost that good will real quickly
And they manage to overexpose him and at same time do nothing with Roman.
That takes talent at sucking.

Yeah that's the other point... before they even moved him to Smackdown and got him tied in this terrible shane feud... they had already overexposed him and the cheers pretty much already died down and he was getting booed... They had the big come back... the crowd was behind him... and then they didn't just shoot themselves in the foot... they shot themselves in the head.

WWE saw one silver lining thing they could maybe do something with and have been determined ever since to milk it for as much non-productive nothing as they can, making sure you never forget it or escape from it, robbing it of all warmth and sincerity, while also not actually capitalizing on it beyond reminding you of it. This company's grown so inept that they can't f***ing take advantage of something anymore. It's like between milking it for every dime and letting it just be they've found this middle ground to make nobody happy and also gain nothing from it.

God I hate WWE and their stupid phrasing no real humans use. "Wins 1st WWE championship title". "Championship" should cover it. Or "Title". Putting both together sounds idiotic. May as well be saying "WWE Title Title".

Is there a specific thing WWE is doing to support leukemia research? I seem to recall stuff being said/done back when he had to leave, but did that remain in any notable regard..... or did they just move on to fill the time advertising that to advertise Saudi shows and hashtags on Twitter?

I want to say they did something REALLY briefly after he came back but nothing further than that. Which feels kind of weird because you’d think for good PR they’d want to promote that stuff a bit more and raise awareness.

This is such an obvious W for WWE to take and they botched it so hard.

The only thing I remember they did is selling Roman cancer ribbon shirts and that money didnt even go towards any cause.

They have Connor's Cure. Again, an easy W for them to take and donate any profits from the Roman ribbon shirt to their own cancer charity. But they didn't.
And it figures one of the cancer charities they actually do things with regularly (Susan G Komen) is one of the worst ones, too.
