The only thing I remember they did is selling Roman cancer ribbon shirts and that money didnt even go towards any cause. Oh Christ, I forgot about that. Goddamn. They have Connor's Cure. Again, an easy W for them to take and donate any profits from the Roman ribbon shirt to their own cancer charity. But they didn't. And it figures one of the cancer charities they actually do things with regularly (Susan G Komen) is one of the worst ones, too. From the description on the Roman Reigns cancer ribbon shirt:

Yeah, 20% of a shirt's price is kinda shady and I think they did something similar with Balor's "Balor Club is for everyone" going towards GLAAD or other pro-LGBTQ+ nonprofits like the Trevor Project. But it's better than nothing like I originally believed.
Still, it's amazing how much a billion dollar entertainment company is so bizarrely bad at PR layups like this. Like as much as I can justifiably criticize Activision Blizzard for all the horrible, anti-consumer business practices they engage in along with terrible treatment of their employees, their charity efforts on the Blizzard side of things are legit. 100% of the proceeds for things like the "Pink Mercy" Overwatch skin or special World of Warcraft pets go to worthy causes like the Breast Cancer Research Fund, with Actiblizzard not seeing a dime of profit that goes back into their wallets.

It's weird they didn't just give an award to Roman without this whole WWE specific award bullshit. 'Guy beats cancer' is kinda always gonna win over 'this person was scripted to win a championship'. Even if the latter also invokes a strong emotional reaction sometimes.

Even if the latter also invokes a strong emotional reaction sometimes. They could have easily have done something like WWE does with the Warrior Award and just given ROman an accolade that could let them more directly and strongly platform the whole cancer cause thing. This didn't need to be done like this at all.

Though they were honoring Bill Russell, a guy with literally no arms or legs, and a Marine sergeant that lost her leg with those this year. But yeah, it's weird to me that Roman facing a very real life crisis in his leukemia battle was put in a category with 3 moments that were entirely scripted.

Right, but if they just made it like a straight-up "Here's the award, we're giving it to him" or like said he was getting it for being inspirational and sports, it'd feel less weird.
