Messi claiming his deadline should have been extended will be hard to get to stick, Barca won’t let him walk away for anything less than £150m this year. By next summer, there will probably be a new President at the club and I can see Messi staying on for a couple more years after that.

Yeah, I believe this is a power play to get the current president of Barca ousted who I imagine many blame for their current predicament. I don't think he's going anywhere and will end his career there.

I wonder who’ll take a chance on Suarez. Yes, there’s the obvious baggage that comes with him, specifically that he’s a massive tit who is capable of getting a lengthy ban every time he opens his mouth (be it biting someone or spouting some racist remark) but he’s still quality. For a player who is apparently past it, he still scored 21 goals last season despite missing about ten weeks due to injuries. His wages will be high but if the rumours are true and he’s available on a free, he could probably walk into most top clubs and get in the first team. But again, he’ll probably end up staying too.

Certainly if Messi stays then so does Suarez, I understand there're very close. It will be players like Dembele and possibly Griezmann that will be sold for the profit, plus they will be the fall-guy players for the current president's reign.

Lionel Messi tells Barca he wishes to leave. He has an annual opt-out clause in his contract, which is what he’s trying to exercise, but the club says the window for that closed in June and his release clause stands at £700M. Clearly this is far from over. Should he leave, I can’t imagine there are more than four or five teams who could sign him. I think City is the most obvious destination due to Pep, but I think Inter, PSG, United and Juve will also be interested. Another thing - Messi is an Adidas player. Will they try to direct him to one of their clubs? I wouldn't rule out the MLS or a move to Asia or the Middle East either tbh, a lot of his former Barca teammates have made those moves over the past few years, it just depends whether he wants to play at the highest level or not still. Outside of that happening I can only see PSG and City having both the financial clout and appeal to get him to move. City for the obvious Guardiola and staff connection and PSG for a reunion with Neymar. Juventus would be interesting though just to see Ronaldo and Messi on the same team, even at this late stage in their respective careers.

I haven’t watched Soccer Saturday in years but I’m surprised Sky have sacked Phil Thompson, Charlie Nicholas and Matt LeTissier. Thompson especially was part of the fabric of that show. And they’ve kept Paul Merton! Jesus Christ.

After the PR snafus of the last few months I'm not surprised Le Tissier has gone, to be honest.

I'm personally starting the "Messi to Chicago Fire will cure COVID-19" rumors to get this done.

I'm seeing rumors of Everton maybe making a play for James Rodriguez..... any truth to that? I think so. James was managed by Ancelotti at Real & Bayern so he knows him well. And James would be guaranteed first team football which he really needs. Only problem is no European football and if Everton can afford him or not.

Random soccer note but Juve is signing US national team member Weston McKennie. Love Wes, but its amazing how last week we were thinking he was going to Southampton

and it just got a little better! as COLERAINE just defeated former champ league and europa league group team MARIBOR 5-4 on penalties great scenes in slovenia but that wasn't the BEST result for me ... wee tiny BALA TOWN of wales defeated cypriots VALLETTA by a single goal, again away from home! for the rest DERRY CITY lost in extra time to RITERIAI ABERDEEN thrashed NSI RUNAVIK 6-0 MOTHERWELL also thrashed GLENTORAN 5-1 SHAMROCK ROVERS and ILVES in in penalties ... THE NEW SAINTS won 3-1 aet over ZILINA BOHEMIANS lost though on penalties to FEHERVAR so probably for the first time ever NO british or irish team won or lost in regular time in the first round proper!
