Revelation has now dropped out of the U.S Kids top ten after only two days. And at no point was it number one. Safe to say it's a flop DEAD BY NEW YEAR'S EVE! And "for kids"? Hmmmm....

As an experiment, I re-cut the first episode and gave it a happy ending. What shocked me is I didn't have to change all that much. I tried a similar trick with episode five...and dear god, despite the second volume being a marked improvement, both it and the whole series is just so needless in light of those edits.

Safe to say it's a flop That's a shame, but it really highlights the shelf life of some of these reboots/revisits/nostalgia traps. He-Man is a franchise that has essentially been dead for some time. It's not like Transformers that has never stopped making new content. He-Man really only has it's nostalgia fans, and releasing this the way they did, really cut them off at the knees because a vocal part of that fan base was having none of part 1 of this. If you advertise something as for the older fans, you can't give them something that isnt feeding them.

Yeah, I was telling a friend of mine about it and he asked if it was good. Dude is only 25, so while I told him I liked it I didn't know if I could really recommend it to someone who didn't grow up with it as nostalgia undoubtedly played a role in my liking it.
I think it's a solid enough cartoon on its own, but if you didn't care about He-Man at all you'd probably only think it's ok.

I see Kevin is now teasing he'd like to get a Christmas special made for 2022 and work with the Princesses of Power team for a crossover. He might just be spitballing, but at least it keeps everything in the conversation.

Watched it when I was kid, still have all my old toys, buying the new Origins line and whatever old merch I can find. I have not watched the new show yet but most things seem fine to me. More depth to supporting characters, great. More "woke", great. Only thing I have heard that I do not care for is the more mature tone as I dislike reinventing kids franchises for older fans. If they are fans of the original then then they should be able to watch something in tone with the original.

If they are fans of the original then then they should be able to watch something in tone with the original. It's not even all that 'woke'. The females get to shine more, but no greater or less than in the Filmation series, everyone's got equal focus in this, and unlike most 'woke' products, the females acknowledge when they're being difficult and eventually apologise. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}Hell, Evil-Lyn's whole rise and fall in the second half comes as a result of a major 'Batman Gambit' from Man-At-Arms. He fires the first psychological shot that unravels her, and relies on his faith in Teela to do the rest. A man still, with hindsight, saves the day, even if it isn't Adam. Fans who don't like Revelation actually highly recommend the secondary He-Man show on Netflix, the CG one, which while dramatic in it's own right, is more light-hearted and aimed at Kids in much the same vein as any other traditional He-Man cartoon.

Its basically dead except for hardcore nostalgic fans, so everything they make should be aimed at making those hardcore fans happy. They are not going to grow the audience for He-Man and G.I. Joe anytime soon, so they need to try harder to hold on to the fans they have.

So I finally got around to watching the first three episodes. Really dug the first two, the third one left a sour taste in my mouth. {Spoiler}Not a fan of Evil-Lyn's origin in this. Her parents decided to go cannibal on her? What is Kevin Smith recycling ideas from 80's exploitation movies? The 2002 series gave he a much more interesting back story as the daughter of the Faceless One.
I'm also really dubious that Skeletor is gonna give up his powers, even only briefly, for a booty call. I kept expecting the reveal that he had only faked powering down because he knew Evil-Lyn was up to something and wanted to see it play out, but no, apparently not. I've seen a lot of Skeletor's plans fail for some really stupid reasons on the old Filmation show, but because he got horny is a new one.

"Woke" has become a completely meaningless term appropriated by the Status Quo Warriors to deride anything that doesn't give straight white male characters agency at the expense of everyone else.

But odd nonetheless, moreso considering there's no Keldor in this continuity apparently.

"Woke" has become a completely meaningless term appropriated by the Status Quo Warriors to deride anything that doesn't give straight white male characters agency at the expense of everyone else Y'know, as tiresome as it is to sometimes read about straight male gatekeeping, I think it's fair to counter that by saying articles like this are just as tiresome to read. www.cbr.com/masters-of-the-universe-axes-teela-andra-romance/This was clearly written because a certain contingent of people wanted a certain dynamic to go their 'usual way' Adam and Teela as an endgame has never been realized before in animation even if it's happened in the comics and the original spin-off bibles. We were well overdue representation for them in this medium, not everybody who displays a strong connection with another female has to be gay. These people already had their victory when they got the toxic pairing of Adora/Catra as opposed to Adora/Sea Hawk in the recent She-Ra eyesore. It's also a case of them seeing what they want to see, at no point did Andra ever come across as anything but a window into the world for the casual viewers and became increasingly useless as the series progressed because her purpose was served. Teela's whole deal the entire show was in figuring out how to grieve for her best friend and process his betrayal of her trust while learning to forgive him and come to understand his need for secrecy, the whole time, she is clearly in love with him and noone else.

The hard-core Joe base proved unable/unwilling to sustain the brand in the past, being kind of notorious for their 'Eh, We'll buy it on clearance' attitude as that was where the line usually ended up, kids or collector focussed, with a vocal selection of the fanbase always finding ways to blame Hasbro for it. The Haslab Skystriker project and Super 7s produced to fill pre-orders Ultimates line will be interesting, we'll find out soon if that attitude is still as commonplace or if they've become more willing to spend to get what they want made in the past decade.

Do you have any queer pairings you actually like?
IIRC, Kevin Smith said numerous times Andra and Teela were never meant to be a thing. But any time there's any gay shipping or actual canon couples, you seem to lament about it or the "gay agenda" without outright saying it. Hell, I didn't even mention anything about Teela and Andra shipping and you used a quote reply as an opportunity for an unrelated rant.

But odd nonetheless, moreso considering there's no Keldor in this continuity apparently. But yeah, Smith is liberal in changing back stories here.... {Spoiler}{Spoiler}Duncan was not the biological father of Teela too, nor was he in love with the Sorceress.
Then earlier, the thing with Orko always being a klutz, even on Trolla. Had he said "based on all the continuities" instead of implying a sequel, I think more people would accept MOTUR.

One episode he is a master mage in his home dimension, in another he is as much a joke back home as he is in Eternia.

Not sure if anyone called this one out, but... It was brought to my attention that there's a LOT of parallels between MOTUR and the He-Man/Thundercats comic crossover. {Spoiler}Skeletor being Joker-like. Fisto saying something inappropriate. The Adam/Randor discourse being pushed. And yes, He-Man "dying" first issue.

Kevin Smith is talking Revelations again www.youtube.com/watch?v=54pi9CBrbQwHe says that he's mapped out a whole trilogy, but it depends on ratings for the second half. If it's made, He-Man and Skeletor will have '24/7' prominence.
