The newer versions of Final Fantasy are better than the original by far.

Like mentioned earlier, Carpenter's The Thing and Cronenberg’s The Fly are great examples. I’ll also throw in Kaufman’s Invasion of the Body Snatchers as another horror film upgrade.
Wizard of Oz was thrown out before as well. In that spirit, I’ll choose The Maltese Falcon with Bogart, which was actually the third telling of the same story (previously done twice in the prior decade).
The Birdcage was also a remake, which I honestly did not know about until a few years ago. Haven’t seen the original version, but I have a hard time believing it could be better than the Williams/Lane/Hackman version.

They're not quite remakes in anything but spirit, but the Rise/Dawn/War trilogy of Planet of the Apes films have maintained much better consistency and quality than the Quintology from the late 60s and early 70s.

The newer versions of Final Fantasy are better than the original by far. Wrong. So so very wrong. Nothing beats the NES and SNES final fantasy games.

In the same vein as "The Thing" and "The Fly", I'd like to add the 80s updated version of "The Blob". The newer special effects really improved the story.

The only things from the original run of BSG that even comes close to holding up to the RDM remake is the early parts of the TV movie, parts of the Pegasus episode, and the return of Starbucks, which wasn’t even from the original series (it was from the 1980 sequel series).

Would "Dredd" be considered a remake of the 90s Stallone "Judge Dredd"?
If it is, then definitely that.

It’s hard to say cause both chocolate factory movies were great.

It’s hard to say cause both chocolate factory movies were great. You'll get a lot of disagreement on that. I'm fairly indifferent to both outside Wilder's great performance in the first, but most of the internet sentiment I've seen really dislikes the Burton film, and consistently favors the 70s version.

The Muppets are Disney charecters eh, not quite. they're characters owned by Disney, not Disney created characters. when someone says "Disney", most people don't think of Deadpool and the Punisher because they now own Marvel. furthermore, when MCC was made, Jim Henson Production was still an independent company

Dawn of the Dead There, I said it. Glad someone did. I get the social commentary of Romero's original, and it's a seminal movie for a reason. I just find the 2004 version more entertaining to watch in places.
