How has no one mentioned The Maltese Falcon? I do like the 1931 original, but let's be real here. It's not the Bogart version. I mentioned it in my post, along with the 1936 version starring Bette Davis. Both are lost in history to the much superior version with Bogart.

A Christmas Carol. 1938... eh. 1951... gold standard. EDIT: And you can keep going back to the 1901 silent short... nothing touches Alistair Sim FIGHT ME! you know what makes A Christmas Carol better...? adding Muppets Likewise, you know what makes Treasure Island better? Tim Curry. And Muppets.

Have started the originals for the first time, but the Kiwami remake on PS4 is much better than the first Yakuza on PS2.
OG Yakuza has super cheesy English dub (where John DiMaggio does a bunch of minor character voices and just sounds like DiMaggio the entire way through, in addition to Date being played by the same voice actor as Goofy and you can hear it. Hamill does a good job as Majima but there's definitely some times where Joker slips through), no camera control, lot of loading when exploring Kamurocho, characters names are changed for little reason, honestly terrible graphics for 2005 (it looks like a good PS1 title) and is very janky and clunky. It's aged terribly, especially when you consider GTA San Andreas had already come out.
Kiwami keeps Japanese dialogue with English subs which works much better to feel like you're actually in Tokyo, adds in more content, tightens everything up, graphics are of their time.
However, that being said, time absolutely flies playing the PS2 version. I played four hours last night and it felt like one, had a blast. There's a lot of problems but it is really enjoyable.

I'd argue Airplane could count as a remake of Zero Hour
