Just watched this for the first time and, wow, what a motion picture!
I have a lot of thoughts, what are yours?
Having just watched the Super Mario Bros movie a few weeks back, Hopper's villain character I'm just assuming is King Koopa in a direct prequel.
The score is stellar, where else have I heard it used before?
Also, this and 'Commando' are tied for best pun after the main villain gets killed.

It's been so long since I've watched it, but I remember it being a classic action film from that era. It amazes me what they did for the practical effects and such, especially with the subway car bit.

My family wore the VHS copy we had out. Amazingly fun movie. Too bad about the sequel though... *barf*.
But the Speed was great. The music, the cinematography the really made it feel like you were the melting on that hot bus (The colors of the whole movie make it seem hot out), the action sequences (That bus jump!). I heard somewhere that in the original script the Jeff Daniels character was supposed to be secretly the bad guy or something, I don't know how that works.

I liked Speed quite a bit and it is one of my mom's all time favorite movies. She's still a Keanu fan because of it. Just a movie that does not let up.

I don't think I've watched it since it came out on VHS. But what I do remember about it is watching it on the edge of my seat. I guess it's time for a re-watch...

Absolutely loved this movie as a kid , me and a cousin would watch this every weekend for a year straight. Still one of my top 5 favorite action movies.

One of those movies that I didn't get to when it was new, only really seeing it within the past, like, five years. When I finally did see it, I thought it was amazing!

One of those movies that hits the exact right notes between over the top goofy, but also wildly entertaining. That cast doesn't get enough credit I feel. The main cast of course are awesome, but the other cops and bus passengers are great in it too. Can't forget about the samaritan who has his car stolen by Keanu either!

I remember going to see it with my mom and dad. The part that stuck with me was the elevator scene at the beginning. It freaked me out about elevators for years. Still, great movie.

I recently showed my 5 year-old son the bus jump scene and he was so blown away by it he was telling random strangers on the bus we were riding on ourselves about it.

My favorite part was when the bus couldn't slow down.

I was really hoping this had a payoff at some point.

It took you 25 years to see Speed? God damn.
Anyways, my uncle saw this back in the day, and he went on and on about how it was, "People stuck on a bus. Really boring." I don't know what movie he was watching, Speed is awesome.

As great as Keanu, Bullock and Hopper are, the ensemble really makes it that much better.
Jeff Daniels, Joe Morton, and all of the bus passengers. Everybody plays their part and gets their moment.
It's the perfect Summer blockbuster movie.

watched speed probably last year on tv and still holds up as an excellent straight action movie, but it's theme song by billy idol that i think is more underrated, and even more surprising the UB40 song from speed 2 is BETTER ..... 'cos i bought the cd single of it pff, john matrix wouldn't have had this problem, he'd have just flipped the bus and crushed dennis hopper under it

Have you played Metal Gear Solid? If yes then that's were you heard the score from before because the score for that game was heavily plagiarized.

It's wild hearing about the various casting rumors for Speed. The female lead at various points was going to be Halle Berry (though she says it would have been as the "black paramedic girl" and not eventual love interest) to Ellen DeGeneres (!). Virtually everyone turned down the Jack Traven part (according to IMDB) from Bruce Willis (who felt it was too similar to Die Hard) to even Jim Carrey (?!). Some of the other ideas would have been good though. Tom Cruise would have been great, and it could have launched Clooney's movie career. Pitt would have worked. I don't think it needed the usual action suspects like Arnold, Stallone, Lundgren, or Van Damme though. It needed someone who made sense in an action role but not too entrenched in that genre.
