Abyss winning the title by a DQ in a match where the ref didn't give a f*** about him getting strung upside down and beaten with a chair just minutes earlier but now couldn't bare to watch him go through a thumbtack table thingy. Abyss won the title by DQ in a no DQ match except it was no DQ to the extent of the referee's moral values.
It's even worse because Sting had just won the belt after literal months of build and they were already setting up a thing between him and Christian since before Sting even returned. Giving Abyss the belt totally messed up those plans because now they had to make Sting and Christian supporting characters in an Abyss story arc that made no sense. Doesn't stop there either, because this whole angle was built on tension between Abyss and Mitchell that Sting had like completely pulled out of his ass like he was Abyss' abusive ex boyfriend or some shit.
It Was Bad

Ric Flair's 16th world title. He was literally handed the title by Kevin Nash and lost it on the same night to Jeff Jarrett.

Winning a title via DQ always feels really cheap. I hate it when it happens because in theory it's really easy to screw over the champion and get a championship. It only really works if it's a heel champion against a goody two-shoes face because it means they can't get themselves DQ'd and stay champion.

The rule makes sense if you want to treat it like a real sport. I mean if I go out and low blow someone in boxing as champ and get DQ'd I don't get to keep the belt. Also TNA loved to say the rule so you needed it to happen at one point but just like TNA they can never really do it at the right time.

Randy Orton beating Christian for seemingly no good reason after a day long title reign and Christian somehow winding up with a half assed heel turn out of it That belongs in the best It was pretty awful, but it wasn't the worst title win off Christian. That has to go to Jeff Jarrett winning it at Slammiversary 2006 when Earl Hebner pushed over a ladder that Christian and Sting were climbing, and Slap Nuts got another NWA World Title run in TNA.

Booking Eric Young as a Dollar Store Daniel Bryan like, 2 days after Wrestlemania 30 I mean, at the very least people were happy for Eric getting it, and there was the thrill of Eric earning the title shot and deciding "I'm feeling crazy enough that doing this tonight might work." Of all the "Worst title wins" in this thread, it's worth noting this was the best received by the live audience.

I'll add Gail Kim winning the Women's Titles on her first night in the company in a women's battle royal:
- happens in the middle of an on-going Ivory-Jazz program that the audience is getting behind Ivory as a viable candidate to beat Jazz. - Kim debuts with her in-ring character having nothing to do with the weeks of vignettes we've seen - Kim's win was so out-of-the-blue the live audience and IWC were both all "was that a mistake?" - Kim's win brings the entire division - the best thing booked in WWE at that point - to a complete halt with nowhere to go after a convincing Jazz elimination.
As for World Titles, how about Triple H being stripped of the belt in late 2004 only to win it right back in the elimination chamber at the 2005 New Years Revolution and have another title reign arbitrarily added to his legacy?

Debra winning the women’s title by technically losing an evening gown match because she was the woman to lose her clothes first is all you need to know in terms of how far women’s wrestling in the WWE has come in the 20 years since.

Of all the "Worst title wins" in this thread, it's worth noting this was the best received by the live audience. It wouldn't have been so bad, but they literally Xeroxed the entire build of Wrestlemania XXX in one night. They had Samoa Joe injured, so they wrote him to mysteriously pull out of the #1 Contender's battle royal mimicking the CM Punk walk out. They had Eric win a battle royal to get the title shot, just like how Daniel Bryan had to win two matches in the same night. Then Eric injures his arm during the match, just like Bryan injured his shoulder in the build to Mania 30. Then Eric has to face the corporate champion Magnus, flanked by the authority figures, just like how Randy Orton was backed by The Authority. They even had EY's former tag team partner Abyss coming out in almost the exact same suit and tie that former Daniel Bryan tag team partner Kane was wearing, because even that had to parallel Wrestlemania XXX. All of it because Eric Young was a good underdog with a bushy beard, just like Daniel Bryan. If there had been any aspect of the EY title win that didn't have some parallel to the Wrestlemania XXX buildup, maybe people could have taken it at face value. Or even if EY had been treated like a main eventer in the weeks leading up to the show. But, it really came off like TNA realized they had a decently popular midcarder that looked like the hottest thing in wrestling, and decided to rush him in the main event because the exact same storyline might work for them too.

Shawn Michaels European championship I like the match and man, the heat Michaels gets for that is insane. Still, a total dick move on his part.
