No Mercy 2007, where Randy Orton is awarded the WWE Championship, Triple H beats him for the title, and then Orton wins it back. All in one night.
Just a masturbatory exercise in padding out everybody's title reign count.

It wouldn't have been so bad, but they literally Xeroxed the entire build of Wrestlemania XXX in one night. They had Samoa Joe injured, so they wrote him to mysteriously pull out of the #1 Contender's battle royal mimicking the CM Punk walk out. They had Eric win a battle royal to get the title shot, just like how Daniel Bryan had to win two matches in the same night. Then Eric injures his arm during the match, just like Bryan injured his shoulder in the build to Mania 30. Then Eric has to face the corporate champion Magnus, flanked by the authority figures, just like how Randy Orton was backed by The Authority. They even had EY's former tag team partner Abyss coming out in almost the exact same suit and tie that former Daniel Bryan tag team partner Kane was wearing, because even that had to parallel Wrestlemania XXX. All of it because Eric Young was a good underdog with a bushy beard, just like Daniel Bryan. If there had been any aspect of the EY title win that didn't have some parallel to the Wrestlemania XXX buildup, maybe people could have taken it at face value. Or even if EY had been treated like a main eventer in the weeks leading up to the show. But, it really came off like TNA realized they had a decently popular midcarder that looked like the hottest thing in wrestling, and decided to rush him in the main event because the exact same storyline might work for them too. Also didn't Dixie refute this by saying EY had the beard first on Twitter or some shit like that Yes, and don't forget the in-ring segment the following week.

Shawn Michaels and Diesel win Tag Titles from Yokozuna and Bulldog who stood in for Owen by pinning Owen only just to have them hand the titles back the very next night.

I'll add Gail Kim winning the Women's Titles on her first night in the company in a women's battle royal: - happens in the middle of an on-going Ivory-Jazz program that the audience is getting behind Ivory as a viable candidate to beat Jazz. - Kim debuts with her in-ring character having nothing to do with the weeks of vignettes we've seen - Kim's win was so out-of-the-blue the live audience and IWC were both all "was that a mistake?" - Kim's win brings the entire division - the best thing booked in WWE at that point - to a complete halt with nowhere to go after a convincing Jazz elimination. As for World Titles, how about Triple H being stripped of the belt in late 2004 only to win it right back in the elimination chamber at the 2005 New Years Revolution and have another title reign arbitrarily added to his legacy? To be fair, Jazz got injured and just vanished during the match so they had to take the title off her. They'd been through all the other avenues with champions so going with the debuting Gail isn't the worst idea. Of course it failed and she lost the title like a month later, then turned heel with Molly, the woman who beat her for the title in the first place.

I mean, at the very least people were happy for Eric getting it, and there was the thrill of Eric earning the title shot and deciding "I'm feeling crazy enough that doing this tonight might work." Of all the "Worst title wins" in this thread, it's worth noting this was the best received by the live audience. It wouldn't have been so bad, but they literally Xeroxed the entire build of Wrestlemania XXX in one night. They had Samoa Joe injured, so they wrote him to mysteriously pull out of the #1 Contender's battle royal mimicking the CM Punk walk out. But, it really came off like TNA realized they had a decently popular midcarder that looked like the hottest thing in wrestling, and decided to rush him in the main event because the exact same storyline might work for them too. The saddest part is, Magnus was booked so poorly as champion that this was still probably a trade up. It sucks that Eric had the World Elite push and the Don't Fire Eric popularity, and his biggest push came because of something that had nothing to do with him or any valid reason to use him.

Just a masturbatory exercise in padding out everybody's title reign count. You know what made that even worse? Umaga got a shot at the belt, just for HHH to beat him, after beating Orton, and then he'd face Orton again that same night in a last man standing match and BARELY lose We think Cena and Reigns are bad but HHH was horrifying sometimes.

Debra winning the women’s title by technically losing an evening gown match because she was the woman to lose her clothes first is all you need to know in terms of how far women’s wrestling in the WWE has come in the 20 years since. This is the one I was coming to add to the conversation. Lost the contest by getting stripped but the commish liked her boobs more, hence, new champ. Couldn't touch that with a ten-foot bargepole these days, and no bad thing.

Randy Orton beating Christian for seemingly no good reason after a day long title reign and Christian somehow winding up with a half assed heel turn out of it That felt so spiteful. I get that Christian and Edge were probably supposed to feud with Christian turning heel, but after Edge's retirement, Christian was a sentimental babyface that everyone was behind. Just a bad idea that I'm sure was fueled by Vince's weird opinions he forms about people.

Triple H literally being given the World Title by Bischoff. Like “here you go game”... um, boo? He was the #1 contender for the title before Lesnar exclusively took the WWE title to SD. It at least made some sense

It at least made some sense Yeah, it made sense. Lesnar took the title to SD so HHH never got his title shot so in response, Bischoff made his own title for his own brand and gave it to HHH

Didn't Triple H have a title defense against Ric Flair the same night he was given the belt? Wouldn't it have been better to make that match for the new championship and at least they didn't hand a title to someone.

Winning a title via DQ always feels really cheap. I hate it when it happens because in theory it's really easy to screw over the champion and get a championship. It only really works if it's a heel champion against a goody two-shoes face because it means they can't get themselves DQ'd and stay champion. Which brings us to Christian's second title reign, which I believe began because Randy kicked him in the dick? I mean this one actually worked pretty well but given he only had two world titles in WWE it is quite hilarious.
