Guy got trounced at the box office and he's got new movies coming out, he's not going to be sore about it. Be graceful in defeat, and choose words carefully so you guarantee an audience for your next project.

What was he saying a while back? I was under the impression that he was always pretty classy about it. I thought he sent the Russo brothers a congratulatory tweet upon dethroning him. Am I mistaken?

Oh, there is absolutely no chance in hell Avatar 2 and 3 will do as well as the first one. None. That one was a perfect storm of timing and new technology; nowadays you're never going to get that sustained of an empty release schedule again and underwater motion capture is nowhere remotely close to as much of a selling point as 3D, especially since you can't exactly charge extra for it.
And that's not even getting into how the first movie, as successful as it was, has had very little cultural staying power. It's not exactly a movie people can quote lines from all day or that has a deep and beloved cast of instantly-memorable characters.

Am I mistaken? i believe it's in reference to things he said before Endgame beat Avatar, such as saying he wanted comic book movies to die and calling Wonder Woman a step backwards for women in Hollywood while sucking his own d*** about how great Sarah Connor is

The Avatar hype was just so odd to me. There was so much pre-release hype about it, then it felt like everyone I knew went to see it and raved about how great it was, but nothing any of them said ever made me want to watch it.

He basically said WW is an icon for her beauty but Sarah isn't or some shit like that because she is "real". Keep in mind, Linda his former wife played literally Beauty in Beauty in The Beast Sarah Connor started off as a typical damsal in distress in T1 before sh became the hardass in T2

I never even considered seeing it in theaters, when I saw it it was catching it on TV like two years later. Thankfully, because I was bored out of my mind with watching it to where I just plain fast-forwarded through the last 45 minutes or so because I just wanted it done with.

I get that he would have been hard pressed to churn out sequels right away, but this is far from striking while the iron is hot. Honestly, had I been involved I would have invested in some anime studio set immediately after the first film, exploring both the adventures of the Na'vi and their human allies on Pandora and the trials and tribulations of the humans on Earth, stressing the life or death need for the MacGuffin unobtainium in order to make space colonies for the exploding human population. This way you at least have the property out there in some manner, continue to world build, might make some money along the way, and have a decent set up for the sequels.

Honestly setting up an anime studio would've also been super helpful with his whole Alita dream project, given it's a manga that really never got an anime adaptation (a bad two-episode OVA nobody remembers made midway through its run notwithstanding) and while the movie roundabout broke even, that's really about all it did.

There's not a lot of justice in the world but the fact Zoe Saldana became the star from Avatar and not Sam Worthington is pretty neat

Watching Avatar in theatres was an experience, watching it at home is an average, overly long movie. EDIT: Even watching in 3D at home isn’t special. But in a theatre setting, it was quite the experience

I personally think Cameron is a total bell-end. When he’s on form, he’s almost untouchable when it comes to spectacular, action set-pieces but his general self-adoration is in danger of over-shadowing his work..... But I think Avatar’s box office gross is a far more impressive achievement than Endgame.
Endgame was basically the final product of a story that several films were building to. It also boasted one of the most impressive casts in history. It had years of build-up leading up to this one film. And boy did it deliver. Avatar had no real huge names except for Sigourney Weaver and she hadn’t starred in anything big for a decade. It did have a Director who had a great record and his previous film had shattered all records but he hadn’t made a (non-documentary) Film since that one.
