It's wild to remember a time when The Fight Network was the one place I could go to hear Mauro Ranallo talking about how much Victory Road 09 sucked "I gotta feeling that tonight was a steaming pile of crap."

For anybody who wants to catch Wrestle Kingdom, NJPW is the most cost effective way (costs about $9 USD a month, sometimes lower depending on exchange rates at any given time), but Fite.TV is doing a deal where you get both nights of WK 14 and New Years Dash for $50 combined, if you'd rather avoid a monthly charge. Either way, for the amount of content you'll be getting they're both ridiculously good deals.
As for Axs, this feels like cutting off their nose to spite their face. I get it, Impact's your baby, but why not keep your channel as a bit of a wrestling hub for fans and have good will going that way, then let the contract run out when it was originally going to? NJPW's show was one hour long, you're not going to crowd Impact out with that.

Wow that's not even an assumption that's just dismissing a motivation for the outcome by citing the outcome itself. That's logical so circular it's a mobius strip. Meltzer said that on WOR a couple of days ago regarding advertising. Anthem really don't care about New Japan, AXS does not revolve around pro wrestling. They have other programming to think about. Anybody who thinks Anthems priority with AXS is solely about pro wrestling, or Anthem bought it for Impact would be a moron. Pro Wrestling is far from Anthems priority when it comes to AXS. No but you can't extrapolate "They have their own show to promote" as some kind of proof they don't care about New Japan. As of some number of months ago, they wanted to work with the company. There's big gaps in the space between that want and this decision, and you aren't filling them in, you're compressing the events down. There's other wrestling still on Axs and the possible fate of WOW will say a lot about this situation. There can be more than one motivating factor for something, and one factor can feed into another decision. But sure yeah imply I'm a moron I guess instead? That's good.

The writing was on the wall earlier the year. Anthem buying AXS was the nail in the coffin. I get NJPW has beef but it's really petty especially as they're working for ROH- for now. Even with the cuts, AXS still can move NOAH, other indy feds and move over more MMA to fill the channel.

Impact or not Impact, if it was doing good numbers and bringing in revenue, they wouldn't be canceling it.

Impact or not Impact, if it was doing good numbers and bringing in revenue, they wouldn't be canceling it. That's... really not true at all. Successful shows get cancelled all the time for random network retools or just due to the network believing they can do better with something else, or for drama with the people in charge of the shows, or the personal taste of those on top, or all kinds of other things. TV executives are not very pragmatic people.

TV executives are not very pragmatic people. Happened with WWE with the CW. Smackdown was the highest rated show on the network at the time but the executive in charge cancelled the deal when she came on board for an entirely different strategy. In the long term, it probably benefited both parties but at the time, it was a really weird decision.

...I wish I could say I'm surprised, but given that Impact is on AXS and Anthem owns the network now, it is more or less Anthem getting the more popular brand off of the network to try and get people to watch Impact on AXS. It is funny that njpw reruns outdo live impacts. But seeing as anthemp produces tna of course it would have happened. But i guess they payout the njpw contract. I kind of hope njpw finds a home at paramount network

If New Japan doesn't find a new outlet and soon, WreslteKingdom is definitely gonna have a lot of illegal streams... Or people can stream it for 8 bucks on new japan world. I mean i do.

Well that’s a major bummer I hadn’t heard of until now. No joke, I’ll fondly remember watching a lot of New Japan stuff on AXS the last few years.

This is Anthem cutting off their fingers to spite their hand. Even the Reruns were getting better ratings than the live Impact shows were.

Probably for the best. Even with Impact's improvements versus where they were a couple of years ago, I don't really know that many people they currently have NJPW would want to use. I guess Elgin if they weren't on terrible terms when he left, maybe, but outside of him and Cage and maybe Moose, not a ton of people I can picture in an NJPW ring.

What is it with Anthem and attempts at extortion/blackmail?

It would've been one thing if they just decided to not renew the contract, but cancelling them a year early over this is petty as f***. f*** Anthem.
