The head cheerleader is another trope I've always wondered about. I knew the cheerleaders well at my school and I don't recall any of them specifically being the "head cheerleader". Well, here's another perspective. I don't know how it pertains to real life, but it's always the captain of the football team (likely the starting quarterback) that is seen as the "big man on campus." Nobody seems to want to be or be with the lineman, center, running back, etc. The same could be said about how nobody seems to care about the starting pitcher for the baseball team, or even a point guard for the basketball team. The funny thing about this is that basketball is the only other sport that has cheerleaders. That is unless, of course, you have an athlete who does multiple sports (I have known a few myself). For me in Canada, no one gave a shit about anyone in sports. Football is popular is here, but it's not a trope for the prettiest girl in school to date the quarterback, at least I'm aware of. Our school didn't have a football team, but I was friends with people on teams that did exist in town. No one cared. Baseball, hockey, basketball, volleyball, no one cared. It was just something kids did. Hell, one kid, in or around my age, has a Super Bowl under his belt now, was good enough to do that, but still in school, it wasn't a "thing" because he was wicked good at football.

Wasn't saying it was a realistic thing. I mean, yes, I knew some athletes myself, but no one made a big deal about it. I was just saying that it was often a thing in movies and TV.

I dated a hot cheerleader in high school, and I was on the f***ing golf team. lol.
Adding to cheerleaders, none of the ones I knew, in my grade or otherwise, were stuck up snobby bitches who got their kicks by teasing the less popular kids or trying to prank them or make their lives miserable. They were all very nice and well adjusted girls.
I went to a very small school that had a "no cut" policy, so if you tried out for something, you were in. No worries about not making the team. So we had all kinds of cheerleaders. All shapes, sizes, and colors. And they won a few competitions.

I just did it to add to the college resume. I was way too small for football, and I hated the baseball coach, so that's all we had other than tennis. But that's what most of the girls on the cheerleading squad did too. Just padding the resume. Most of them didn't give a shit about whatever status you got as a cheerleader.

Teenagers solving crimes and mysteries while somehow being able to juggle school, after-school activities and work.
And of course they look 25.

Underage girls on Disney pretty much being mini fashionistas, never wearing the same clothes twice, despite coming from middle class families.
A has something important to share, but B turns out to have something to share as well so A lets B speak first. When the B finally shuts up and ask "sorry, what were you gonna say?" A, having changed their mind by what B had to share quietly says "oh nothing". And B lets the whole thing go, even though A clearly had something important to say and it was most definitely not 'nothing'.
People with eidetic memory. Yes, they retain information, but that does not mean they automatically understand it. And I am pretty sure they have to take time out to read the information and can not simply scan Lord of the Rings as fast as they can turn the pages. I believe they need a refresher too after a while.

I’ve seen a lot of Twilight Zone and never once have I seen anyone in real life banished to the cornfield.

The lovable idiot.
Do people really want to hang out with an ignorant goofball?
I mean, I've had friends who have said and done stupid things, but we also told them to smarten up and stop being so god damn dumb. We were never like, "Oh, that is soooo Joey! LOL!" Don't encourage them to be airheads.

Almost all episodes of SVU
After an hour of not being able to solve the crime because of the criminals temperament the last 2 minutes of the show one of the detectives figures out how to get under their skin and immediately “YES I DID IT AAAAARGHHH”

House not getting fired on about 147 different occasions. Like, yes...he's an awesome doctor and he brings in grant money or whatever. The hospital would have been sued into the stone age on a weekly basis
"You clearly practice while high as a kite on viccodin and constantly violate sexual harassment as well as racial discrimination practices....but you're a damn fine doctor! *shrugs*"

Don't encourage them to be airheads. Eric Matthews wins this one. He went from being a charismatic dolt of an older brother to being a step above mentally disabled. There's no way the rest of the gang, even his brother Corey would associate with him

Another Hollywood invention, construction workers catcalling women as they walk by a construction site.

Sheldon Cooper surviving 12 years on the Big Bang Theory without being murdered or turning into a serial killer. From the same show: eating takeout or eating out every single night of the week and not: a) being broke b) suffering from a myriad of health and weight issues. Usually people rage out calling it the worst show ever because they don’t actually eat and do their lines with their mouth full.

House parties that have hundreds of people. I went to a few when I was right out of high school, but some of the time, people would go outside in the backyard. There was even one when there was about 20-30 people. But I've never seen or went to one where the furniture gets destroyed or the cops were called, or have some uninvited guests come. The whole "wild teen party" thing felt like something made for TV and movies. Had a buddy that his Halloween and New Years parties would have 70 to 100 people show up. But yea no furnature being destroyed. Sure the cops showed up a few times for noise complaints. Also we were all 17 to 25 so not some teens throwing a party cause our parents are gone for the weekend.

I think we were all hoping for a bad tv line like "[well when I was with my cheerleader] it was a hole in one everytime!" But you sound like a decent person who's mind isn't in the gutter like mine.

Kara Danvers being single and having a hard time meeting guys in the first season of Supergirl. We even see a guy ditch her on a date in the 1st episode. For one she's played by Melissa freaking Benoist, and above that she's completely adorkable. From the same show: eating takeout or eating out every single night of the week and not: a) being broke b) suffering from a myriad of health and weight issues. Well they all did have PhDs(other than Howard). And Howard became an astronaut, so that would bring in more money for him. A university is going to want an engineer who was also an astronaut. House not getting fired on about 147 different occasions. Like, yes...he's an awesome doctor and he brings in grant money or whatever. The hospital would have been sued into the stone age on a weekly basis "You clearly practice while high as a kite on viccodin and constantly violate sexual harassment as well as racial discrimination practices....but you're a damn fine doctor! *shrugs*" That's nothing, just look at Suits. Everybody would have been disbarred multiple times in each episode. LegalEagle reacted to the first episode and within the first 5 minutes of it he said Harvey would have been disbarred.
