I think you’re all familiar with the nonsense Gamestop is trying to pull (asking employees to disobey laws to shut down by claiming to be an “essential service”). They are never getting another f***ing dime from me.

I came in here to post this It's bad enough they're staying open, but they're putting their employees in medical AND legal jeopardy They keep finding new ways to be awful

My company who I won't name for privacy reasons, are taking extra steps to protect us.
Customers aren't even allowed to get out of their trucks, and have to put their orders in by phone call.
We don't even have to have them sign anything until further notice.

We’ve decided to send all our employees home with pay for at least the next couple of weeks. We can probably cover them up to two months without any assistance.
It’s part of owning a small company. Our employees actually matter to us and we want them back, hopefully well rested and not bankrupt when this all washes over.

Gamestop has got to be, by far, the worst about this.

William Hill just closed for 2 weeks with immediate effect.
As in my friend who manages a shop had to throw everyone out at 8 30 at night.

Lego closed their retail stores and are paying their staff. The company I work for makes something used for cleaning products so we're in demand right now. If anybody feels sick or comes in contact with anybody and the company sends us home, we get paid. All the office personnel are working from home as well. For production, it's business as usual but being even more diligent to clean and sanitize work stations. I believe they’re keeping their stores open in China, ironically.

Probably the only time I'll say this but the VA through my college just did something cool for us. In exchange for helping with our Veterans Outreach via communication from home we still get our paid contract hours. It isn't much pay wise but hey! Groceries and such!

I know it's not healthy food, but Burger King is going to offer two free kids meals starting next week for a limited time to help with food issues with every order online. Given that they're willing to take a loss, that's a positive.

They are never getting another f***ing dime from me. I stopped buying crap at GameStop when they went from being a game store to Poor Man's Hot Topic. They poke and prod you to become a Pro Member, but the rewards got terrible over the years.

They must be loosening restrictions with no new cases or something.

This is a jeer to not any company in particular but ones who are posting ... Closed till such and such a date... How do you know? Some have on their windows next weekend!
I was in St Jacobs today's for a walk and saw a sign " CLOSED TILL FURTHER NOTICE" YES! This is what every business should be posting . Putting a date for reopen especially NEXT freaking week sadly gives False hope to employees and guests of their business.

It doesn't matter since it is a weak ass order that allows you to leave whenever you want. I'll take any hope that we might get back to sanity and normal in a relatively short period of time.

I don't know any of this first hand but I've read a few reddit threads and FB posts, so take this with a grain of salt. It does appear that most lenders are working with lendees (at least in the US) and if you call them, they will work with you to either postpone payments with no penalty or tack the payments onto the back end of your loan term. It isn't a godsend by any means, but I keep going back to people who work in a tipped industry like I did for six years and that can mean the world. I don't have specifics since most of the posts have been something like, "Got to press the pause button on my car lease." But if people on here are having issues in that regard, it could be useful. The worst they can say is no.

I hope people remember the shit companies and boycotts them. Not the small businesses, but the muli billion brands like Virgin. No sympathy for the noticeable number of mom and pop mini mart type corner shops who are doubling or trebling the price of canned food and charging 8-10 notes for a bottle of hand sanitizer. Before had always used them, important part of the community, often immigrant owned putting in long hours that others woudn't for the benefit of people who can't travel far. Once this is over I'm strictly using big supermartcorp Inc and so on for my shopping needs and hope seniors who use the small businesses for conveniences sake start to get online deliveries (which they will, no one has long memories like them). When this is over a lot of fully grown men and women are going to learn the hard way that actions have consequences and these souls won't all be Vince Scrooge McBurns CEO types.
