The TCM selection is pretty impressive. Watched 8 1/2 and Chimes at Midnight on there. Lots of classic movies from the '40s, '50s, '60s, including foreign films.

I just looked around through what all they presently have available and it's... pretty lackluster. There are definitely some things I'd be into but in the moment even if this had Firestick support I don't think I'd be inclined to shell out $15 for it, even just for one month.

I do think that if the subscriber count remains lackluster they'll lower the price a bit. They almost have to do something due to the way they shit the bed rolling this thing out.
If they could somehow get something like the Nickelodeon backlog, I think the nostalgia folks would flock to the service. Speaking of which, I'm damn surprised there ISN'T a Nickelodeon streaming service. That seems like a goldmine.

There was a thread about cinematic "one-hit wonders" a few weeks ago and someone made the rather outlandish claim that Orson Welles was one and I wanted to throw a copy of Chimes at Midnight through my screen into their face. Such a great movie.

Such a great movie. Yeah, I thought about responding that it was clearly not true as an actor with The Third Man being such a hit for him, with Welles in particular getting praise. He also was in The Long, Hot Summer and A Man for All Seasons (Best Picture winner). It wouldn't be true as a director either with The Stranger being a financial success and Touch of Evil mostly being considered a classic, and it's in the U.S. National Film Registry.

I'm enjoying it so far. I haven't had any issues streaming movies or shows, unlike Disney Plus.

I always thought having a lower-priced tier without the HBO stuff would work. Having it cost more than Netflix or Disney+ or Hulu (or even the Disney+/Hulu/ESPN+ bundle) is a mistake.

As regular consumer, people don’t know what the heck the difference between HBO Go, HBO Now, HBO Max. They all sound like the same thing.

The DC selection on here exposes the scam they're running. So they have half of the DC animated films on the DC app. The other half are on the HBO Max app. Both apps are owned by the same company, so this isn't a contract issue. You're withholding DC content from the DC service to put it on another of your services, scamming customers into double subscriptions.
Well, now they have a fledgling DC app, and an "utter disaster" in HBO Max. Good job, Warner.

I get it for free seeing as my Mom subs to HBO through her cable. Been binging Ghibli movies for 2 days straight and enjoying every second.

Well, I'm sure it's been covered already, but here's the basic difference:
HBO GO: For those who sub to HBO via cable/satellite who want to stream on devices and/or watch on demand, etc.
HBO NOW: For those who want to sub to HBO without cable/satellite.
HBO MAX: Larger streaming service which combines HBO programming with a big movie and non-HBO TV library.
I am sure HBO NOW will be discontinued once HBO MAX is able to get on Roku and/or Amazon.

Nicksplat's general approach is being very thin on content but rotating it out semi-regularly. It's not good and should really be far more comprehensive, though something to be said I guess for having Kablam at the moment given all of the rights issues surrounding it and how hard to access the show is, even if there are a few missing episodes.

I had it for like 3 months, then dropped VRV cause they lost Shudder. All I ever saw was Nicksplat losing shows. If there as a nick service with 80s thru about 93ish stuff I would try it out. I dont think Kablam was on it when I had it.

There has to be a reason why this hasn't happened yet, certainly with someone like Viacom behind them. I'm assuming it's all a rights issue.

I think there's a good chance it's already too late to salvage it. Netflix and Disney+ already have a big install base and that'll be enough to give their various new projects momentum to attract new people. By comparison I'm having a hard time seeing the same kind of momentum building up around shows there's a good chance barely anyone is watching.

I've already seen some snyder cultists dropping off the boat... saying they'll just torrent the Snyder Cut... so... uh... good job AT&T placating a bunch of awful people that are openly talking about not giving you any money for it...
