Wait until the enemy raises his weapon to strike then release triangle. Later in the game you'll have to watch them for fake attacks to get you to strike first, but this early in the game you're just learning their pattern I think. I managed to win the standoff, but only by sheer luck. Unless the white bar I saw above him was the indicator, that guy's still too fast. Just wait until the jerks start throwing flinches at you. I got the hang of it... until they started flinching anywhere between one and five times before actually throwing their attacks. I can’t beat them at all anymore unless I just guess which flinch they’re attacking out of once the duel starts.

Add on the upgrades you can add to successful standoffs as well

Im started to enjoy the game again after I got the ability to instantly kill five people, making random encounters on the road just one big display of Uber masculine power fantasy. The story while not great has does have its moments, I particularly like the hints that everyone is sexually repressed and that Jin kind of hates his Dad. But what I really want is a documentary or article about what was left on the cutting room floor because while good, I can’t help but think Sucker Punch had bigger ideas for a game that took six years to make.

I figured out the problem: I had the Toggle Button Hold set to a button press, which is why I kept striking too soon or getting hit first when I tried to hold the button.

There's so much to say about this game but I'll put it into one word.
Fun.
It's got great graphics, an amazing setting, dope story, wonderful combat but beyond that it gives you something that not many games do and that's the feeling of exploration in the same way BotW gave you. Man, it's like playing this game really gives you that feeling of you playing a game as a kid.

As fun as this game is, an example of my obsessive need to finish out side quests and maps has really put on display how much needless filler games throw in these open worlds. I’ve been playing for essentially two full days, and I’ve finished exactly one main mission.
I love the game, but I wish I could travel 20 feet without getting a new side mission or standoff.

Like everything is easy to keep track of and only times I get really sidetracked is if I see a bird or a fox and I know they are going to lead me to more treasure which only helps my buy get built Everything in the game is meant to enhance the experience

Game sold 2.4 million copies globally in 3 days, making it the PS4’s fastest selling original IP.

There's been several well-written, fun open-world games within the past decade, but only this one has given me that childlike sense of wonder, of wanting to get lost in the world.

I’ve filled out the entire bottom third of the map, done every side mission available to me and found every collectible I could get, so now I’m finally ready to do some missions.

This mission to acquire the longbow is a draaaaaaaaaag. Is it? It only took me like 15 mins. You're just going from spot to spot Took me about three times that just wandering aimlessly trying to figure out where they want me to "follow" the blue flowers in this vaguely defined circle where I wasn't sure where it started and ended. It wasn't as bad once I found the little island they wanted me to go to but then when I had to find the third place that was also a drag. Just didn't like the mission until the duel at the end.

Yep it's really like, like imagine how games were when we were kids.
As a kid to you every level of graphics were dope, each game was fun in an exploration style way whether they were adventure, side-scroller, fighting, doesn't matter, each game had that sort of "new exploring" type of feel to it whether it's the combat, world, area, just all of it. Each game's sound was either amazing or cool to you. Each game had a unique world that you were able to go into. Even something that wasn't at the higher tier back in the 90s was cool to you. Same with the combat. As a kid, those things just felt great for you. Then you get older and you start noticing graphics more, combat, uniqueness, story, game worlds, all of that and it sort of changes how you view games.
This game though, let's look at it. Graphics? Dope. The sound? Dope. Atmosphere? Dope. Combat? Dope. Story? Dope. Photo Mode? Dope. Exploration? Dope.
It's like it all came back in a great way with this game. Right now I'm playing this at midnight just relaxing, having no cares, just having fun seeing everything I can see. As much as I loved TLOU2 that was a different kind of game. I couldn't really relax with it. Same with RDR2, same with a lot of games but this one? Yeah, I can relax. I can't relax playing a fighter since I'm in combat but this? Nah, I'm just chillin.
I love this feeling. It's automatically in one of my top 5 games this year.

All I wanna do is play this game lately. I love Sucker Punch, making my favorite games since I was a kid playin Sly Cooper. I want Sucker Punch to make Sly and a Ghost sequel next in the same way Insomniac is doing Spidey 2 and a new Ratchet game.
Like now that I think about it in the last few years of open world games only this and BOTW capture that like "Oh what's that over there? Oh shit there's actually something there!" feeling.

Man, it's sooooooooooooooooooo satisfying entering a combat scenario and eliminating everyone without taking a hit. You truly feel like a classic samurai and/or ninja.

Love a game I can just pick up and play
Still really haven't gotten crazy into the story. Maybe did 3 main missions but otherwise i'm just moving around and clearing out the map. This is somewhat like Red Dead where you are rewarded for exploring and just having fun with it but you can also just do the main story too
